A BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM of the ITALIAN AMERICAN CLUB at the PLANTATION of LEESBURG, FLORIDA

2017 Scholarship Program

The Italian American Club of the Plantation at Leesburg is offering two (2) one-thousand dollar ($ 1,000) scholarships to graduating seniors. To be eligible for one of these scholarships, a high school senior must be a student at one of the following area high schools (East Ridge, Eustis, Leesburg, Minneola, Mt. Dora, South Lake, Tavares, or Umatilla) and must be of Italian American Heritage. All applicants must also be accepted into a fully accredited 2 year Community College, 4 year College or University. Consideration will also be given to a graduating senior who will be attending an accredited post-secondary Vocational or Technical School (VOTECH). Each scholarship recipient must provide evidence of either a Florida State Endorsed Academic or GED diploma before the scholarship stipend is awarded. The IAC Scholarship stipend will be sent directly to financial office of the college, university or technical school the recipient will be attending, in the student’s name to be used for tuition, books, materials and other educationally related expenses.

Each applicant must submit formal application that includes a written response foreach of the following five points:

Part I:Provide evidence of your charitable work and describe the importance of that work. (10 points)

Part II:Describe thecultural values have you acquired from your Italian family and why these values are important. (20 points)

Part III:Explain the rolesocializationhas played inyour life. (10 points)

Part IV:Write an essay of no less than 200 but not more than 225 words on the following topic:

“How my Italian American Culture will influence my life beyond high school.” (30 points)

Part V:In a paragraph of approximately 100 words, respondto the following topic:

“How being awarded an IAC Scholarship will help me achieve my goal of going to college.”(30 points)

DO NOT INCLUDE ANY TRANSCRIPTS THAT INCLUDE YOUR GPA OR HIGH SCHOOL GRADES AS A STUDENT’S GPA ORGRADE STANDINGWILL NOTBE TAKEN INTO CONSIDERATION FOR THE AWARDING OF AN IAC SCHOLARSHIP.

Therefore, the Italian American Club of the Plantation at Leesburg, Florida Scholarship application reflects these three pillars. Each applicant must submit formal application that includes a written response for each of the following five points:

Part II:Describe the cultural values have you acquired from your Italian family and why these values are important. (20 points).

Part III:Explain the role socialization has played in your life. (10 points)

Part IV:Write an essay of no less than 200 but not more than 225 words on the following topic:

“How my Italian American Culture will influence my life beyond high school.” (30 points)

Part V:In a paragraph of approximately 100 words, respondto the following topic:

“How being awarded an IAC Scholarship will help me achieve my goal of going to college.” (30 points)

Scholarship Submission Guidelines and Requirements:

  • A completed application form must accompany submissions for consideration for a scholarship
  • All responses must be legible and clearly identified with each of the five parts noted as above.
  • All applications become the property of the Italian American Club of the Plantation at Leesburg, Florida.
  • Recipients of a scholarship must provide validation of both completion of high school diploma or a GED certification and a letter of acceptance and commitment to an accredited post-secondary school institution.
  • Failure of a recipient to provide proper validation of the completion of a high school level program and enrollment in a post-secondary institution is cause for disqualification.
  • Scholarship stipends will be presented to award recipients upon the successful completion of all requirements.
  • All decisions of the Scholarship Committee of the IAC are final.
  • Awards will be presented at Ashley Hall in the Plantation at Leesburg - 11:30 am on June 15, 2018- during the June Membership Meeting of the Italian American Club of the Plantation.
  • The IAC Scholarship stipend will be sent directly to financial office of the college, university or technical school the recipient will be attending, in the student’s name to be used for tuition, books, materials and other educationally related expenses. The scholarship will be designated to be applied as follows… one-half of the total award for the Fall and Spring Semesters during the recipient’s freshman year (2017-18).
  • Each2018 Scholarship Recipient will be expected to attend the June 15, 2018 meeting to accept his/her award.
  • Each 2017Scholarship Recipient is also expected to attend the following year’s IAC Membership Meeting on June 22, 2019to share his/her first year’s college experience and welcome the 2018 Scholarship Recipients.
  • Completed applications MUST be received on or before May 1, 2018.
