Coach Vidal took my son under his wing and over the next year not only did he make him a strong and quick soccer player, he made him feel confident. Part of why my son today has been able to reach his goals and play at the highest level nationally is due to the training and mentoring from Coach Vidal. – Olatunda Duah- .Silver Springs, MD

ATHLETIC DEVELOPMENT
PROGRAM
Winter Training
The goal of our winter program is to develop and enhance each player’s individual dribbling, passing, footwork and receiving skills through creative training and focused repetition. The Directors of ECAT has used their extensive experience from Africa, South America and Europe to create and develop a Afro-Brazilian / European training model to improve each individual player's technique in all areas of the game.
High School - Winters Tryout Preparation
Many of our U15/16 players are facing winter soccer tryouts and the team selection process for varsity and junior varsity teams. Our emphasis with these players is first and foremost to build their confidence level and to ensure they enter the tryout field prepared mentally and physically. Our second goal is to work to develop their technical foot skills in areas of particular importance to high school soccer coaches. The following areas are emphasized during winter skills sessions:
· Performing under pressure
· Advanced technical drills
· Improving tactical decision making
· Physical endurance
We do our Winter training Indoor..
Why Indoor Skills Sessions Instead of Indoor League Play?
ECAT indoor practice sessions are designed to give players thousands of valuable touches on the ball over a 7 or 8 week period. The difference between training and playing (in a winter league) is that players get more time on the ball when training. This is the single most important point when we are developing young players. The ECAT indoor winter skills program will improve the technical skills of each player within a competitive, learning environment.
The goal of the indoor training program is to develop and enhance each player's individual dribbling, passing, footwork and receiving skills through creative training and focused repetition. In league play, assuming a player plays for a total of 30 minutes during the game, during those 30 minutes it is estimated they will touch the ball 30/40 times. For an hour at a ECAT Indoor Training Session, they will touch the ball at least 300/400 times.
We do understand that there are things in a game that cannot be replicated in technical drills, such as the mental side of playing in a game, the competition, the thrill of playing indoor soccer etc. etc. But for sheer player development, indoor training is highly recommended for spring preparation. Indoor soccer is fun, and is excellent for endurance - but the indoor skills do not easily translate to the outdoor field environment. Thus ECAT encouragement to all soccer teams and players to emphasize winter skills training over league play if a player can only do one.
We offer two different indoor skills training. November 16th to December 30th and January 4th to February 10th .
Technical training drills will be the main focus during the 1 hour training sessions. Drills include emphasis on receiving with all surfaces of both feet (inside/outside/laces), as well as the thigh, chest, head, turning the ball using all surfaces (sole/inside/outside of foot, thigh, chest, head), dribbling using all surfaces of foot, passing, volleying/half volleying. The amount of time spent on each of these drills, and approach taken will vary significantly by age group. The last 15 minutes of each one hour session will be spent in small sided (1v1, 2v2,3v3) play. The following areas are emphasized during winter skills sessions:
· Receiving the ball and ball control
· Dribbling techniques and footwork
· One on one & moves/fakes
· Quick foot work
· Passing with Precision
· Wall pass & Overlap
· Anticipating plays

We are a competitive species.
We want to have the best and be the best, and most of us work our butts off to achieve what we want. Competitiveness can be a healthy thing especially when it drives us to create the most magnificent building, the most arresting artwork, the most powerful business, the most moving literature, the most democratic government. We may never achieve perfection, but that drive to excel is what makes all of us better.
