A block the metaphor by budge Wilson oct.16/17
The metaphor is a short story about a young woman named miss Handcock who is an middle school teacher and wants to teach her student’s the power of the metaphor, in English her lessons inspired a young girl named charlotte who has the talent of being able to express her self by using the power of the metaphor, charlotte uses the metaphor to describe many people in her life most important to her, is one of the, her mother who is veryjudgmental and cold.
How do these two completely different woman influence charlotte in her life and decision making?
Miss Handcock want’s the best for her students as an English teacher she might think it will ne her responsibility if herstudents don’t know the teaching of Englishliterature, witch charlotte is very interested in.
Charlottes mother sure isn’t the sweetest or understandable but she has experience in this world she may not show it much but over all she wants the best her.
They are similar in that way they want the best for the people they care about.
Charlotte told her parents about the lesson She learned in class from miss Handcock about the metaphor, her mother just gave a snarky comment about how annoying her teacher is and unrated she is
The difference in charlotte’s mother and miss Hancock are they see things a much differentmanner. Hermother she sees it like it is, why waste your time crying over something and what good would it come in the end how would it make you feel better? Her mother is always clean and wants everything to seem perfect in her eyes charlottes father doesn’t really have a say how about his wife constantly being control.
There different in that way.
Over all when charrette went to see miss Handcock she asked if she’s still writing metaphor’s charlotte replied with not much the very next day they got the news that miss Handcock died but from, my perspective she commented suicidebecause she couldn’t handle the pressure of the 10th grade. People just thought she got hit by a bus but charlotte knew that that wasn’t the case, she blamed herself and once she came home baling her eyes out her mother was concerned what might have happened to her if anyone did this. Charlottes kept blaming herself that she was the reason for miss Handcock’s death.
Her mother didn’t show a shred of sympathy“you mean that same brassy creature from grade7?”
Her mother alsoreplied with” for goodness sake charlotte said my mother said quite bit clearly – (pg.78) irritated don’t lose perspective shecouldn’t keep order she only had herself to blame.
And her mother was right in my opinion miss Hancock had anawful reason to do what she did what type of example is she showing her student’s when life gets hard just end it? Give up?
Charlotte mother was Cleary just trying to show charlotte that it wasn’t her fault sheshouldn’t feel any type of guilt.
Overall charlotte will be carful and wiser in the future from all she went through, these two women have deeply influence her life.
