Greetings!
Hola! This is a special MedSpanish / PACE Newsletter to give our friends in international and intercultural health an overview of our dynamic programs. They are intended to augment already existing programs and not compete with them. Our models of global health and interchange will be an asset to any forward-thinking organization.
We operate Community Based Training Centers in Latin America which work in concert with our Medical Spanish (MedSpanish) Program. This supports infrastructure development in Latin America in emergency and primary care training and also fosters intercultural exchange and communication training for US health care workers who interact with Spanish Speaking patients. Many of our training programs in Latin America have been developed through the initiative of US MedSpanish students.
We get high marks from independent International Programs Reviewed! Please see their web site if you are considering international programs anywhere.
The MedSpanish Program provides total immersion clinically-based training in Medical Spanish, Cultural Literacy and International Health. Our programs are highly individualized and use our "Speed Learning Method". We also offer inteactive, web based Spanish lessons through Medspanish On-Line. Our students are Medical and Nursing Students, Residents, Faculty, Physicians who need CME and other Health Professionals.
We Combine: Community Based Medical Training Centers or "PACE Centers" that are partially supported by our MedSpanish program. These PACE Centers provide skills to local health care providers in areas of primary care, emergency medicine and public health and are led by local medical leaders with the support of the international community. The ALSO Course is a recent example of our training activities (We are the center for Advanced Life Support for Obstetrics in Mexico). In return for supporting the PACE Center programs are hosted for US medical personnel who need training in Medical Spanish, Cultural Literacy and International Health. We are also partnering with The Challenger Corporation, a leader in Medical Education, which has agreed to assist in the development materials for Latin America on a non profit basis.
We intend to provide a high quality experience for Medical Students, Residents, those who need CME and others, while assisting the local medical community in developing their training infrastructure: A truly win-win situation!
Our founder and director, Haywood Hall, MD FACEP is an Ashoka Fellow and the American College of Emergency Physicians Ambassador to Mexico. The PACE / MedSpanish Organization is a "Mission Driven Social Enterprise": The collaborative development of emergency medicine and primary care in Latin America and the provision of culturally sensitie care for Latinos in the United States. We wish to create long term linkages and partnerships between our collaborators in Latin America and the United States for mutual development. Please review the web sites and feel free to contact us! Many references are available. See our Photo Album . ! We hope to get this newsletter out monthly, but we are SO BUSY doing the work!
We can help you develop capacity in Medical Spanish and Latino Cultural Literacy!

We have established a GREAT Progra m for preclinical Medical students in Guanajuato, Mexico, along with with Medical Spanish and unparalleled clinical experiences through the Medical School and the Red Cross! It is a program which provides general and medical Spanish, clinical international health experience as well as cultural literacy training. In addition, we provide the highest quality accommodations, unparalleled to all. It is a great relief to participate in international medicine and to learn such important skills as Medical Spanish before you go back to the heavy book learning for another year. / Medical Students have great experiences in the Program
We provide a great experience for clinical medical Students at a key point in their medical education. The impact of this type of rotation benefits the participant their patients over lifetimes. Students spend 5-7 hours a day in the Hospital, Clinic , Rural Mobile Health Unit (Brigadas) or the Red Cross ambulances and 2 hours a day on intensive Spanish. The result is typically to be able to perform a history and physical in Spanish after a few weeks! Preclinical students between their first and second years are welcome in our programs as well.

/ Residents have a great clinical and cultural experience in the hospital in Guanajuato
The program provides one of the very few, if not the only truly clinically based, total immersion Medical Spanish programs available. It is a complete experience in Medical Spanish, International Medicine and Cultural literacy. The clinical base is at the Health Ministry Hospitals, Community Clinics, and Rural Health "Brigadas" as well as Red Cross Ambulances. We recently opened another great hospital experience in Dolores Hidalgo. The programs are affiliated with the University of Guanajuato and University of New Mexico Medical Schools. We are developing programs in Guanajuato City (Red Cross) and Leon (Medical and Nursing School)

/ International Health
Many medical professionals dream of attaining experience in international medicine and health. Those that do so often find it one of the most rewarding experiences of their careers. While you may find it a relief to step away from the sometimes constrictive conditions in the USA--because of the threat of malpractice lawsuits and the interference of HMOs--international health and medicine can pose some challenges as well. Our program overcomes many of these challenges and provides a structured, safe and fascinating environment for you to begin your international career. We have started an innovative Geographic Emergency Medicine Service , to promote international work.

We do great work in international emergency medicine and public health! Our students often get to participate in our international Community Oriented Emergency Medicine projects. We teach nurses, EMTs,and physicians a broad range of emergency medicine skills in Spanish and have done this throughout Mexico, and Latin America. We are founders of the Colegio Medico de Urgencias del Estado de Guanajuato. We are starting an American Heart Association training site (ACLS, PALS, BLS), and International Disaster Medical Life Support Center (FENIX), as well as an Advanced Life Support for Obstetrics (ALSO) center in Mexico.
