World Issues Activity

This activity is designed to get you thinking about major world issues facing us today. It will give you the opportunity to brainstorm, to prioritize, and then to discuss your ideas.

TASKS:

1. Individually brainstorm on a piece of paper (using mental map or web) a list of important global issues facing the world today. Try to come up with at least 10 examples. J

2. Divide into groups of 3-4 and share your results. Copy onto poster paper (without repeating any of the issues)

3. Present your list to the class. Discuss similarities and differences.

4. Individual Assignment:

After reviewing all of the group’s lists of global issues facing the world today, chose one that you think is the most important issue (can be from your list or from the class list). Write a persuasive paragraph(s) (1/2 page approx.) explaining why you think that issue is the most important issue facing us today. Be as descriptive (and persuasive!) as possible, and provide details/examples as to why it is such an important global issue.
