Setting the TCP/IP Address for CT Sim 5 Windows 2000 Systems and Mapping a Networked Drive for

GE Medical Advantage Sim Installations

PURPOSE:

This work instruction specifies the tasks required to complete the network connection for the CT Sim 5 software at a GE Medical Advantage Sim installation.

WORK INSTRUCTION:

1) Check the back of the CT Sim computer and make sure that the network connector is attached.

2) Log on as Administrator, the password is “gammex”, Gammex must be in lower case letters. The next steps set up the IP address for our CT Sim PC. You may need to get help from an on site Network Administrator to complete steps 2 through 9.

3) Find the My Network Places icon on the PC’s Desktop.

4) Right click on My Network Places icon and select the menu option Properties.

5) Select Local Area Connection.

6) Highlight the TCP/IP Protocol and click the <Properties> button.

a. If the TCP/IP Protocol is not present click the <Install> button and select the protocol component then click the add button. Select the ‘TCP/IP Protocol’ choice from the ‘Select Network Protocol’ window and click <Ok>. Windows 2000 will ask for a file path for the TCP/IP protocol. If ‘…\I386\’ is somewhere in the file path just click <Ok> and the update should be automatic. Otherwise, Windows 2000 will ask you to insert the Windows 2000 installation disk. The PC must be rebooted for the changes to occur.

7) In TCP/IP properties window input the IP address for our CT Sim PC. The manufacturer of the Treatment Planning Software (TPS) or that site’s IS/IT department will provide this number for you.

8) For the Subnet Mask box input ‘255.255.255.0’ unless specified otherwise by the local IS/IT department.

9) Click the <Ok> button. Windows 2000 does not require a reboot at this time, however it is OK to reboot if you wish. Delete this: You may be prompted to reboot the computer, if not please do so at this time.

10) Click the <Start> button, select ‘Run…’ and then type ‘cmd’.

11) Obtain the IP address for the TPS. You may need to get help from an on site Network Administrator to complete steps 10 through 16. If there is not an IP address assigned, or none is provided test the Gammex computer as follows and leave a copy of these instructions for the ‘GE on-site engineer.’

a. In the Cmd Prompt Window type ‘ping’ followed by the IP address 127.0.0.1, i.e. ‘PING 127.0.0.1’. This will ping the Gammex computer and will verify that the Gammex network card is working properly. The response will be in milliseconds (ms).

12) In the Cmd Prompt window type PING IP address of TPS

a. i.e. PING 192.9.3.0

13) If the TPS is pinged successfully it will report the ping time in milliseconds (ms). If either the Gammex network card or the TPS was not pinged properly the message “Request timed out” will be displayed. Check the network connections.

STEPS 14-19 CAN ONLY BE COMPLETED IF THE SOMBA SOFTWARE HAS BEEN LOADED ON THE GE ADVANTAGE SIM WORK STATION. CHECK WITH A GE REPRESENTATIVE TO SEE IF THIS HAS BEEN COMPLETED.

THE SOMBA SOFTWARE ALLOWS A UNIX SYSTEM TO COMMUNICATE WITH A MS WINDOWS BASED SYSTEM.

14) Right click on Network Neighborhood and select Map Network Drive…

15) Note the drive letter selected. In the Path text box type

\\IP Address of the GE Advantage Sim Worksation\laserexport

i.e. \\192.9.200.11\laserexport\

16) Make sure the Reconnect at logon is checked and click the Finish button. Another window will appear. Close this window with the top right corner Close button. The My Computer window will appear. Close the My Computer window with the Close button in the top right corner.

17) If no error message is displayed the network drive has been successfully mapped to the TPS system. You can verify this step by opening Windows Explorer and locating the mapped drive.

18) Follow the instructions in the “CT Sim 5 Laser System Software and Calibration Guide” under Autorun Setup in the Program Operations section to finish the autorun setup. The autorun file is ‘autorun.cts’ and the unit of measurement is millimeters (mm).

19) If possible have a sample autorun file exported to the Gammex CT Sim system.
