Welcome to Zig-Zag week. A surfer’s delight!
This is surf camp at Sugar Bay! Surfing and other water sports are the focus, but there are plenty of other activities on offer too. Encourage the kids to get up at Dawn for an early surf or Life & Tides walk and talk. Here are some ideas of evening programs – feel free to customise them, but make sure they are fantastic! AC's should be given the choice to participate or not – up to counselors to try and tempt them to join in! Otherwise they can just chill (without disturbing anyone)

Life & Tide workshops
Every morning there will be “life & tide” workshops (recommended for seniors but anyone can join)
The “Life & Tide” mini program has been created for the non- coastal versed kids wanting to learn more about how to handle the ocean and general ocean knowledge. The programme has also been designed for the kids whom have not signed up for the specialised ocean activities, but get to come close to the understanding of certain aspects of the ocean activities e.g. eventually swimming out to back-line, body surfing etc. (a sort of lifeguarding awareness workshop), with the sugar bay lifeguards. This will be happening on three early mornings and on two beach mornings (instead of team game) . Basic programme is as follows (but feel free to add other extra stuff depending on time/ interest level):
- Part 1: walk and talk with the lifeguards: tide/set/wave – creation.
- Part 2: Rip spotting /side washes / types of waves /currents -body surf to test.
- Part 3: How to swim in the ocean / stroke technique /duck-diving /ocean awareness using waves

Within their specific groups, every kid has to make their own cocktail and amongst themselves they will choose the best out of the groups to be presented as the group cocktail to get judged. However this is also a race - a cocktail is only complete with its garnish. The first group to complete their cocktail will have first dibs on garnish choice (one garnish at a time). These are set out on a table in the front. Once the final cocktail is completed the cabins have to name the cocktails and give an explanation of the cocktail and the surfer’s community who will like their drink the most. The drink, name and explanation will get judged by a panel of counselors and campers.
