Thank you for your interest in golf at Wasatch High School.
Golf has experienced a surge in popularity all across the United States. Our region is no exception. In region 8, we play with and against many talented young players. We also have an opportunity to play several of the finest courses in the state. Our own home courses, Soldier Hollow and Wasatch State Park are two of the most popular and respected courses in Utah. .
Each player on the team will need to meet the following standards.
Each player must register with “register my athlete.com”
Each player must have at least a 2.00 G.P.A. A current physical, and sign a code of conduct.
Each player must have his own set of golf clubs and provide their own balls for practice and competition.
Each player must be conversant with the rules of golf including all the rules governing etiquette on the course.
Each player must be able to compete by walking 18 holes of golf.
Each player must attend all team meetings and practices.
Failure to meet these requirements may result in dismissal from the team.
Our goal at Wasatch High School is to win our region championship and go on to win state. In order to do this we need players with great self motivation.
We recommend you that you get your membership in the Utah Golf Association (UGA) and suggest participation in at least two tournaments sponsored by the state. Those schools that have won a state championship have players that regularly compete in UGA sponsored tournaments.
We expect a player to take lessons from a PGA professional in order to improve technique.
We expect a player to participate in the Utah Junior Golf Association. This is a great way to meet players from other schools and regions and develop a competitive attitude.
We expect a player to plot and record each round in order to determine strength or weakness in his game.
We expect a player to spend time working on his game in the area that will most improve their overall playing ability.
Tryout for boys will begin August 8th.
Please refer to the web page for information about the coming season and tryouts. We will play two 18 hole rounds, one at Soldier and one at Wasatch Mountain state park with a cut after the first and second rounds round. We will take twelve people on the Varsity golf team.
All participants in tryouts will be expected to play according to the rules of golf under tournament
conditions from the blue tees. We expect you to be honest, not cheat in any way, not deface the course nor tolerate anyone that does. As a player, we are the guardians of the game and our primary responsibility is to protect the course and the field of players.
For those of you that make the team, each region tournament we will take 10 players, 6 Varsity and 4 JV. The four lowest scores will count for our match total. In order to be competitive in our region, we need 4 scores in the 70's.
The state golf tournament allows six players from each team to compete at the season end tournament in October. This year will play at Talons Cove golf course in Saratoga Springs. As a coaching staff we need to take our strongest team. The guidelines for the six players that will represent Wasatch at state are,
Practice attendance
Stroke average
Number of varsity tournaments played in
Number of varsity scores posted.
If there are players statistically close to each other, a playoff will determine who will go.
If there is no time for a playoff, or if your season playing performance has increased or decreased, the final decision on who will play on the state team will be determined by the coaching staff.
To earn a letter in golf the following requirements are in place.
Come to practice and participate the entire season
Post twice in varsity competition
Post once in a varsity competition and qualify for state.
Play the entire season as a senior
Again, thank you for you interest in golf at Wasatch High School if there are any questions, please feel free to come by my room, call or E-mail.
Good luck, play well.
