President’s Report 2008/2009

It is with some sadness and perhaps a few regrets that I write my final annual report as your President. Yet as I look back over my 3 years as President, I would have to say that I am more encouraged and more excited about swimming in the Waikato now than I have ever been in recent years, and I am hopeful that in the near future we will really see Waikato swimmers excel both nationally and potentially on the international stage.

I am encouraged particularly by the progress that has been made by the more promising swimmers in our Region over the recent 2008/2009 season. In particular it has been great to again see a number of Waikato swimmers amongst our SNZ Age Group Teams. I congratulate Bianca Bradley (FFD) and Jared Solomon (ACE) who were selected for the NZ Team that attended the Pacific School Games in Canberra in November 2008. Whilst at that Meet Jared broke the National Age Group Record for 100m Butterfly. In January 2009 Matt Stanley (MAT) and Shelby Wilson (FFD) were on the NZ Swim Team at the Youth Olympics held in Sydney, Australia. More recently, in early July 2009, Matt Stanley was swimming in Australia as part of the NZ Tri-Series Team!! Well done to those swimmers and their coaches for making national teams, and doing so well whilst representing NZ.
