Job Description

Job Title: Payroll/General Accounting Supervisor

Department: Administration

Reports To: Controller

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

OSHA Category: Category 3

Summary: This position performs a variety of accounting tasks to assist the Controller, as well as prepare and process the bi-weekly payroll; other duties include, general ledger accounting, internal auditing functions and bank reconciliations..

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

· Process payroll including paying employees, paying liabilities and fund payroll account

· Ensure accurate withholdings for employee taxes and insurance premiums.

· Maintain accurate records relating to employee start date, termination date, status changes and address.

· Track employee Paid Time Off and other payroll related items.

· Maintain Payroll Software and updates.

· Prepare and enter month end closing journal entries.

· Coordinates cash control functions and assist with issues relating to POS systems.

· Process and distribution various payroll, accounting and operational reports

· Prepare bank deposits

· Maintain appropriate paper and electronic files for documentation, using professional record keeping methods.

· Coordinates certain employee benefits

· Update SUTA rate (January).

· Update Comp Rates (July).

· Cross-train in all AP/AR functions.

· Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Position will cross train with all other accounting employees, be able to train other employees and be responsible for department in the absence of the Controller.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements described are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Some computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Word, Access and Excel, excellent telephone skills, and familiar with office equipment. Knowledge of Retail Pro or other inventory management software preferred, but not required. Working knowledge of accounts receivable and payable, state and federal payroll tax in addition to other accounting functions.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business administration preferred.

Language Skills

Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.


Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
