Position Summary: This is a co-located position in partnership with the Department of Human services within the Gresham Child Welfare branch. The Safe Start Advocate is responsible for follow-up and delivery of supportive services to domestic violence survivors selected for contact due to co-occurring domestic violence and allegations of child abuse/neglect. This position monitors DV advocacy aspects of Safe Start’s collaborative response and works closely with advocates and Child Welfare personnel to ensure coordination of follow-up, advocacy, case management, and cross-disciplinary response to referred domestic violence survivors. The advocate will also be available to child welfare staff for consultation, case planning, and training in the branch.
Education, Training & Experience:
·  Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Early Childhood, or related equivalent and a minimum of two years’ advocacy experience in domestic violence and/or sexual assault programs, OR
·  Associates degree and three years of experience in domestic violence and/or sexual assault programs.
·  Four years of experience working as a qualified domestic violence/sexual assault advocate may be substituted in lieu of education requirements.
·  Specialized knowledge of the child welfare system and in issues and dynamics of co-occurring domestic violence and child trauma/abuse/neglect.
·  Demonstrated knowledge in domestic and sexual violence dynamics, collaborative and multidisciplinary teamwork, systems navigation, and local community resources.
·  Experience with home visiting models, experience working within collaborative partnerships.
·  Experience working with diverse, multicultural populations.
·  Experience with navigating the Child Welfare system.
·  Experience providing training and/or consultation.
