Volunteer Role Description: Film Maker
Purpose of role
The role of a Volunteer Film Maker is to be part of a pool of professional and amateur volunteer film makers throughout Watford & Three Rivers to be called upon as and when required to help film, events and planned trans-media campaigns. Volunteers must enjoy working with people, have an artistic flair and a good eye for detail.
The short films will become property of Watford & Three Rivers Trust. They will be used for a diverse range of online marketing materials. Watford & Three Rivers Trust will endeavour to credit your films where appropriate.
The role
The Volunteer Film Maker will:
· Discuss and agree with the Director of Communications the kind of films that would best promote the activity and how this can be achieved
· Discuss with the Director of Communications any props which may be needed to illustrate the activity or event being filmed
· Discuss with Director of Communications which activities/events you will be able to attend to film
· Ensure that Film Permission Forms are taken to all events
· Liaise with staff at events to ensure that participants are happy to be filmed and to be used for the purpose of promoting the charity
· Ensure that anyone who is not happy to be filmed is left out of the film
· Refer to the Director of Communications for the type of film used by Watford & Three Rivers Trust on our website and on social media
· Upload the films onto platforms such as Vimeo and You Tube
Requirements
The Volunteer Film Maker will demonstrate that you:
· Have video camera experience, skills and an understanding of the techniques used for video based-media production
· have access to a video recorder and able to edit films into a high quality short film
· enjoy working with people from all backgrounds and able to make people feel at ease when being filmed
· are dependable, take pride in your work and able to work to strict deadlines
· a good listener, able and willing to follow directions
· are at least 18 years old
Desired Criteria
· You are able to provide a portfolio of your previous work
· Can plan and produce dynamic and thought provoking short films
· Have experience of trans-media (storytelling using film)
· You have excellent communication skills and are able to give clear and unambiguous instructions
· You are self-sufficient and can work independently, but when required you are confident to request assistance.
The time commitment
We ask that the Film Maker is on an as required basis. The role is ongoing and will be regularly reviewed in partnership with the volunteer.
Location
Events in various locations throughout Watford and Three Rivers.

Training & induction:
All volunteers are required to undertake a training as part of their induction programme. This will include an overview of the Watford & Three Rivers Trust and basic health and safety. There may also be other training that you are required to undertake. All training will take place on dates and times to be agreed in advance with the volunteer and their supervisor. Completion of the training programme is compulsory.
Supervision and support
The Volunteer Film Maker will report to the Director of Communications. The supervisor will answer questions, provide guidance and monitor performance. Training will be given at the beginning of the placement and will be provided on occasions throughout. At the end of the first month there will be an informal discussion between volunteer and supervisor on progress and support needs. Informal ’one-to-one’ support meetings will then take place at least twice per year and will be in addition to the regular contact and communication that is ongoing between the supervisor and volunteer.
