MINUTES

MAY 23, 2012

The meeting of the Ventura County Council meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. at 669 County Square Drive, Ventura, Ca. by Vice-president Bonnie Frost. Officers present were Secretary Anita Wilvert, correspondence secretary Debbie Meyer-Morris and Treasurer Darlene Johnston.

The pledge of Allegiance was led by Jenna Kelton and the 4-H pledge by Chase Bowen.

BOARD REPORTS:

Minutes of the previous meeting was read and approved. Motion to accept was made by Rhonda Bowen, seconded by Joel Bowen. Motion passed.

This report was read and filed.

Correspondence Secretary’s report was read and she announced that Fern Vacca was honored as a life time honoree for Southern Regional Sectional as a 4-H volunteer at its May meeting. Flyers for camp were passed out and it was announced that the cost is $315.

Event Reports:

All Star Report: Given by Dayle and Savannah Morris: They reported that about 200 people attended the Grand Opening of the Ormond Beach Wetlands Project. Oxnard Mayor Holden was present and “The Kitchen” catered the event. There were no complaints, and the 1st Sundays of Sept. and Nov. there will be tours from 1-3. A report was also given on the Oxnard Earth Day Booth. A good turnout was had for this event and information was given out in flyers and word of mouth format to explain what 4-H is. This event was for recruitment purposes.

Southern Section Field Day was given by Gwen Vanoni. Gwen has all of the statistics on Ventura entries and it will be coming out in Clover Lines.

Southern Section Leaders Retreat: Debbie Meyer-Morris gave this report and said that there is a large grant for a new leadership programs and workshops.

Food Faire & Fashion Revue report was given by Debbie Meyer -Morris. There were double the amount of members from last year, A count of 29 kids from nine clubs participated. Medal winners printed in Clover Lines.

Super Saturday: Terri Hargleroad gave this report and said that 87 kids participated. They had Iron Chief, Cup Cake Wars, Showmanship, and Sheep Shearing events. Clean-up went well.

Fair: Chris Garmon reported that the asphalt is poured, under the new construction and everything will be 99% done by June 1. Electricity and plumbing will be done by fair which is 70 days. He also reported 62 tags for steers. 56 standard and 6 mini.

Committee Reports:

Fair Expo: There was no report given.

Large Livestock PDC: Next meeting is July 11, 6:30 p.m. 4-H Office.

Equine PDC Report-Jackie Larson: Jackie reported that Equine had two events and it was a good turnout.

Old Business:

Fair Animal Deadline-12/31/11-Included projects list review List includes: Cattle (All), Goats (All), Poultry (Chicken & Turkeys), Rabbits (Market), Sheep (All), Swine (All)

New Business:

NEW Venue Review Committee-Gwen Vanoni reported that this will include dates where committees can be formed for 4-H friendly PDC’s with 3-4 venues.

Animal Project Commitment Council approved letter. This report was given by Bonnie Frost who explained the letter could be used as a tool for kids and Parents to understand what is expected in projects. But not mandatory.

Being no other nominations from the floor, nominations were closed

2012-2013 Enrollment Fees: State insurance costs were increased, council voted to absorb $2 of this so new members fees are $35 and leaders $10.

2012-2013 Budget Proposal—Will go over again, and vote will be next meeting.

There being no other business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:47 p.m. Next council meeting will be Wednesday June 27, 2012 at 7 p.m. at the 4-H office.
