A RESOLUTION declaring the month of May 2000, as Motorcycle Awareness Month.
WHEREAS, the safe operation of a motorcycle requires the use of special skills developed through a combination of training and experience, the use of good judgment, and a thorough knowledge of traffic laws and licensing requirements; and
WHEREAS, Kentucky has 120,000 individuals who have valid operator and chauffeur licenses with a motorcycle endorsement; and
WHEREAS, it is especially important that the citizens of our state be aware of motorcycles on the streets and highways and recognize the importance of motorcycle safety; and
WHEREAS, all motorcycle organizations, clubs, dealerships, groups, and highway officials in our state should join with the Kentucky Motorcycle Safety Program and the Kentucky Motorcycle Association in actively promoting safe operations, increased rider training, improved licensing efforts, and motorist awareness; and
WHEREAS, during the month of May 2000, all highway users should unite in the safe sharing of roadways throughout the Commonwealth of Kentucky; and
WHEREAS, this special Motorcycle Awareness Campaign also encourages other motor vehicle operators to be cautious and observe these motorcycles, especially during the seasonal return of motorcycles to the Commonwealth's streets and highways;
NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The House of Representatives does hereby declare the month of May 2000, as Motorcycle Awareness Month, and we do hereby urge all citizens to develop a caring attitude toward sharing the road.
Section 2. The Clerk of the House of Representatives is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Representative Carolyn Belcher for distribution to the proper authorities.
