A RESOLUTION adjourning the House of Representatives in loving memory and honor of Lance Corporal Sean M. Langley.

With deepest respect and admiration, we pay homage and tribute to Lance Corporal Sean M. Langley, and we pause in silent reverence for his soul.

WHEREAS, Sean M. Langley was born on August 2, 1984, in Great Falls, Montana, and he traversed these earthly bounds on November 7, 2004; and

WHEREAS, Sean M. Langley was the loving son of William J. Langley and Patricia M. Langley, both of Lexington; and he also leaves behind: a caring brother, C. Matthew Langley; a stepbrother, John Hannon; a stepmother, Susan Langley; a grandfather, Robert Heinz; a grandmother, Maureen Young; a step-grandmother, Mary Hanson; and many other proud family members and friends; and

WHEREAS, Sean M. Langley moved to Lexington with his family in 1994; he attended Lexington Catholic High School and Henry Clay High School; at an early age, he learned the meaning of service through the example of his parents, both police officers, and was enthusiastic about joining the military; and

WHEREAS, Sean M. Langley enlisted in the Marines in September 2001; he was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force based at Camp Pendleton, California; and

WHEREAS, after faithfully serving his first tour in Iraq in 2003, Lance Corporal Sean M. Langley was deployed for a second tour in Iraq, bravely supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom, where he performed his duties as a machine gunner; and

WHEREAS, the life of Lance Corporal Sean M. Langley ended prematurely in Al Anbar Province, Iraq, when he was mortally wounded during enemy action; and

WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Sean M. Langley valiantly served his country with honor and distinction; during his dedicated service as a Marine, he was awarded the Combat Action Ribbon, the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, and the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon; he was buried with full military honors; and

WHEREAS, Sean M. Langley was an extremely likeable young man who had a bright future before him; he had plans to continue public service after the military by pursuing a career in law enforcement; he attended the Blue Grass Baptist Church in Lexington; and

WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Kentucky has the highest respect for Lance Corporal Sean M. Langley and is deeply grateful for the sacrifice he made for the freedom of all Americans and to ensure the freedom of the Iraqi people; and

WHEREAS, the passing of Lance Corporal Sean M. Langley has left a void that cannot be filled, and he is mourned across the length and breadth of the Commonwealth;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The House of Representatives does hereby express its profound sense of sorrow upon the passing of Lance Corporal Sean M. Langley and extends to his family and many friends its most heartfelt sympathy.

Section 2. When the House of Representatives adjourns this day, it does so in loving memory and honor of Lance Corporal Sean M. Langley.

Section 3. The Clerk of the House of Representatives is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to the mother of Lance Corporal Sean M. Langley, Ms. Patricia M. Langley, 3355 Sutherland Drive, Lexington, Kentucky 40517; and to the father and stepmother of Lance Corporal Sean M. Langley, Mr. and Mrs. William J. Langley, 3516B Creekwood Drive, Lexington, Kentucky 40502.
