A RESOLUTION adjourning the House of Representatives in loving memory and honor of Marine Sergeant David N. Wimberg.

With deepest respect and admiration, we pay homage and tribute to Sergeant David N. Wimberg, and we pause in silent reverence for his soul.

WHEREAS, David Neal Wimberg was born on January 24, 1981, a native of Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky, and he traversed these earthly bounds on May 25, 2005; and

WHEREAS, David N. Wimberg was the loving son of Dennis and Tricia Wimberg; he was the caring brother of two sisters, Jennifer and Malysa, and one brother, Michael; he was the beloved grandson of Angela Krekel; and he also leaves behind many other loving family members; and

WHEREAS, David N. Wimberg graduated from Trinity High School in 1999, where he was very involved in school activities; and

WHEREAS, David N. Wimberg enlisted in the Marines following high school, and served for four years, including two years in Okinawa; he then continued his service to others by joining the Marine Reserves in the spring of 2004, and was assigned to the Marine Forces Reserves 3rd Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division, based in Columbus, Ohio; and

WHEREAS, Sergeant David N. Wimberg was mobilized in November, 2004, and began a tour in Iraq in February, 2005, bravely supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom; and in May, 2005, his unit aided Operation Matador by securing objectives near the Syrian border; and

WHEREAS, on May 25, 2005, the life of Sergeant David N. Wimberg ended prematurely when he was fatally injured during conflict with enemy forces in Hadithah, Iraq; and

WHEREAS, Sergeant David N. Wimberg served his country with honor and distinction; he was buried with full military honors; and he was awarded the Purple Heart, the Iraqi Campaign Medal, the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; and

WHEREAS, Sergeant David N. Wimberg was highly regarded by all who knew him as a friendly, loyal young man with a bright future before him; and he had many interests, including being outdoors, playing soccer, and camping; and

WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Kentucky has the highest respect for Sergeant David N. Wimberg and is deeply grateful for the sacrifice he made for the freedom of all Americans and to ensure the freedom of the Iraqi people; and

WHEREAS, the passing of Sergeant David N. Wimberg has left a void that cannot be filled, and he is mourned across the length and breadth of the Commonwealth;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The House of Representatives does hereby express its profound sense of sorrow upon the passing of Sergeant David N. Wimberg and extends to his family and many friends its most heartfelt sympathy.

Section 2. When the House of Representatives adjourns this day, it does so in loving memory and honor of Sergeant David N. Wimberg.

Section 3. The Clerk of the House of Representatives is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to the parents of Sergeant David N. Wimberg, Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Wimberg, 4511 Dannywood Road, Louisville, Kentucky 40220.
