Job Description

Responsible for on-site instruction and supervision of Kean University students assigned for field experience to N-12 classrooms in the public schools and agencies of New Jersey.

Qualifications (minimal):

1.) New Jersey Department of Education Permanent Teaching Certification;

2.) A minimum of five (5) years experience in the area(s) of certification;

3.) Master’s Degree;

4.) Administrative Certification;

5.) Administrative/supervisory experience, preferably in urban settings.

Responsibilities:

Performs the functions of orientation, instruction, supervision, and evaluation as a clinical faculty member and demonstrates knowledge of context, title of inquiry, structure of the discipline as related to the NJCCCS and the Professional Standards for Teachers. These functions include but are not limited to the following:

A. Orientation to the Field Experiences:

1.) Attends and participates in pre-semester Orientation to Field Experiences (August and January).

2.) Establishes contact with building principal upon entering and leaving the building.

3.) Schedules orientation visit within the first week of student’s assignment.

4.) Distributes to and reviews with student and cooperating teacher(s) the contents of the Guide for Professional Laboratory Handbook III or Preprofessional Experience Handbook II.

5.) Established expectations with student(s) and cooperating teacher(s) with regard to lesson planning, journal, teacher work sample, videotape, supervisory observations, conferences, assessments, and the NJCCCS professional, and Teacher Work Sample Portfolio.

B. Supervision of Professional Intern:

1.) Observes at least one full lesson every other week. Visit to include review of student lesson plans, a conference with student, and appropriate instruction.

2.) Confers with the cooperating teacher(s) about the progress of professional intern during each visit.

3.) Participates with the professional intern in the analysis of the student videotape.

4.) Reviews student’s journal during each visit.

5.) Reviews and critiques Teacher Work Sample Portfolio entries.

C. Assessment of Professional Intern

1.) Assesses the progress of the student with the cooperating teacher during each supervisory visit.

2.) Completes and submits five (5) narrative reports.

3.) Completes and submits mid-experience and final student internship competency assessments in consultation with cooperating teacher.

4.) Completes and submits a video-analysis form.

5.) Determines and assigns student grade(s) in collaboration with cooperating teacher.

6.) Submits grades via KEANWISE promptly to the Office of the Registrar.

7.) Communicates with the staff of Teaching Performance Center unsatisfactory progress of student and/or placement difficulties as early in the semester as possible.

8.) Ensures the return of Professional Field Experience Competency Assessment forms, mid-term and final as completed by the cooperating teacher.

9.) Assesses completed Teacher Work Sample Portfolio.

10.) Completes Special Case Report as necessary. The report, when used,

must be filed by Week 8.

11.) Collects and forwards to the Teaching Performance Center assessment

forms as completed by the cooperating teacher.

D. Supervision of Preprofessional Field Student:

1.) Observes a minimum of three (3) lessons during field experience. Early Childhood majors are required to be observed three times during the preprofessional field experience.

2.) Completes and submits at least one Preprofessional Field Competency Experience Assessment form for each assessed field student in addition to documentation for each visit. Please use Field Experience Narrative Observation forms for additional documentation.

3.) Confers with the cooperating teacher(s) about the progress of the preprofessional field experience student during each supervisory visit.

4.) Reviews student’s journals during each supervisory visit.

E. Assessment of Preprofessional Field Student:

1.) Assesses the progress of the student with the cooperating teacher.

2.) Completes and submits at least one Preprofessional Field Experience Competency Assessment for each assigned field student.

3.) Completes and submits a midterm and final Preprofessional Field Experience Competency Assessment in consultation with cooperating teacher.

4.) Determines and assigns grade of Satisfactory/ Unsatisfactory.

5.) Submits grades via KEANWISE

6.) Communicates with the Teacher Performance staff unsatisfactory progress of student and/or placement difficulties as early in the semester as possible.

7.) Completes Special Case Report as necessary. The report, when used, must be filed by Week 8.

8.) Collects and forwards to the Teaching Performance Center assessment forms and requests for professional development hours as completed by cooperating teacher(s).
