2015 MCAS Yuma Traffic/ Motorcycle Safety Courses and Schedule

Basic Riders Course (BRC) (Level 1)

This course is required for all active duty personnel who ride a motorcycle on or off base per MCO 5100.19. The BRC is designed for beginning riders. In the classroom, you’ll learn about the different types of motorcycles, layout and operation of the basic controls, and how to become a safer, more responsible rider. You’ll then move to the range the riding portion where you will guided through the basic skills of straight-line riding, stopping, shifting, and turning, gradually progressing to swerving and emergency braking. Personnel must possess a valid state-issued motorcycle endorsement or learners permit before signing up.


Advanced Riders Course Street Techniques (ARC-ST) (Level II)

This course is required for all Active Duty personnel who own motorcycles and are required to complete the ARC within 120 days after completing the Basic Motorcycle Riders Course. Personnel must possess a state-issued motorcycle endorsement, motorcycle and PPE. This course is for riders with basic skills, this class provides more in-depth riding techniques and procedures than practiced in the BRC. The course consists of activities that emphasize personal risk management and self-assessment strategies, and on-cycle exercises with emphasis in cornering, braking and swerving. Lessons on how to balance the mental and physical aspects of safe riding, manage risk, increase visibility and optimize your lane position. The course also covers rider protective gear, rider responsibility, motorcycle inspection and care, the effects of alcohol and drugs on riding. You’ll put into practice the techniques of managing traction, stopping quickly, cornering and swerving. Course times should be verified upon sign up due to changes in temperature and requirements.

Alive at 25 (DIC)

This driver improvement course is required for all Marines under 26 years of age per MCO 5100.19. The course is 6 hours of classroom training covering topics to include: behavior at the wheel, distracted driving, fatigue, speed, local hazards, impaired driving and risk management strategies. This course is also available to all that meets training eligibility requirements.


Attitudinal Dynamics of Driving (Remedial Drivers Course)

Attendance at this course is normally mandated to personnel through the Base Magistrate`s traffic court as a result of an on base traffic accident or serious traffic violation. This course is 8 hours of classroom instruction and guided discussions’ covering driver behavior and habits, drivers attitude and choice consequence theory. Student participation in all discussions is mandatory for successful completion. Commands may assign personnel to this course at their discretion.

ATV Course, Dirt Bike School, Recreational Off-Highway Vehicle (ROHV)

These courses are required for Active Duty personnel who operate an ATV, Dirt Bike or ROHV. Participants must own their platform to take this training. MCCS Arizona Adventures does offer equipment rentals for active duty personnel only. Separate five-hour classes are held on an as-needed basis for each type of vehicle. Call the traffic safety office to enroll/schedule.

Eligibility: Unless specified above, all courses are available to active duty personnel (priority), Active Reservist (Drilling), dependents, retirees, and Department of Defense employees.

Sign up/ Enrollment: Classes are first-come, first-served and class schedules are subject to change. Registered students will be informed of course locations and any changes prior to the start of class. All Active Duty motorcycle course enrollments must be scheduled through the student’s unit motorcycle club representative or the units S-3 training section. All other active duty course enrollments must be approved/confirmed by their SNCOIC or above.

Motorcycle Safety Inspections: In order to enroll for any Motorcycle class, riders must have motorcycles and PPE inspected by a unit motorcycle representative. The Traffic Safety Trainer will inspect all others motorcycles and PPE at enrollment.

Loaner/trainer Motorcycles will be loaned only to Marines that do not yet own a motorcycle and only for the BRC.

Active Duty Personnel that own their own motorcycle will be priority over Active Duty Personnel that need loaner trainer motorcycle.

All Active Duty motorcycle course enrollments must be scheduled through the students unit motorcycle club representative. All other active duty course enrollments must be approved by a staff noncommissioned officer or above.
