The Heart of a Runner
Four teams have just completed a 4 x 100 relay race. Their scores are as follows:
Tigers: 65 seconds
Gazelles: 60 seconds
Rockets: 63 seconds
Eagles: 70 seconds
Use Microsoft Excel to graph the results and determine the average speed of the teams. Then copy and paste your graph into Microsoft Word and create three story problems for others to solve.
1. Create your graph in Excel
2. Input your data into the spreadsheet. Pay attention to which cell you are placing data.
3. To create your graph
a. click on the chart wizard button
b. type: choose column or bar graph, hit next
c. data range: choose rows or columns
d. titles:
i. give your graph a title with your name
ii. x axis-teams
iii. y axis-Number of seconds
e. save and finish
4. You can change the color of your bars by selecting the one you want and double clicking to open the color picker.
5. Save it to your network folder.
Writing in Word:
6. RIGHT click on your graph and choose “copy”
7. Open a blank Word Document
8. Type in a title and your name
a. Example:
Fast Track Problems

b. Press Enter two times to leave a blank line
9. RIGHT click and choose “paste”
10. Your graph may need to be resized to fit
your work space.
11. Write three questions that can be answered using your graph
12. Save your document to your folder
13. Raise your hand when you are ready to print I
