Fundraising Specialist, (Telemarketing)

Background

Purpose of Role

Be the focal point for the development of UNICEF’s Telemarketing (TM) pledge donor recruitment and retention programs and thereby drive the growth of pledge income. The post provides strategic input, technical fundraising expertise, advice on investments; guidance on managing TM recruited donors and techniques to maximize their income through more efficient processes.

TM refers to the use of Telemarketing campaigns in donor acquisition through cold outbound telemarketing, conversion of warm leads to pledge donors, harvest programs, Pathways to Pledge and inbound calls as a response mechanism to offline media. TM also refers to the use of Telemarketing in donor management, value maximization, supporter services, donor saving and reactivation.

Fundraising via TM generates tens of millions of dollars for UNICEF every year and this figure will continue to grow. The quality of the planning and execution is vital in maximising this income and in ensuring the efficient use of millions of dollars of investments.

The post holder decides on best HQ use of Telemarketing for fundraising purposes and on how best to support regional teams (Relationship Teams & Regional Support Centres) and country teams (National Committees (NC)and Country Offices)in TM based fundraising. Given the expert skills of this person, their advice will frequently dictate the decisions made by NCs and Country Offices.

Primary responsibilities

1. Work with central teams (Market Development and Country Office Support), regional teams (National Committee Relationship Teams, & Regional Support Centers) and country teams (NC and Country Offices)to develop and perfect UNICEF’s TM programs. This includes the provision of hands-on

2. Support in local agency selection or the recruitment, management of in-house teams and assessment of applications for FDP investment applications.

3. Track the global development of TM inside and outside UNICEF, especially maintaining relationships with key TM agencies. Ensure continuous local testing, collate learning’s and apply to our programs to maximise results. Keep in touch with industry experts and keep track of competitor activities. Develop relationships with external experts and engage as relevant if workload becomes excessive.

4. Advise on global investment allocation and local requests to maximize ROI on investments and global pledge donor recruitment. Assist with creation of investment request forms.

5. To provide advice and expertise on post-acquisition payment processing and donor communications.

6. Relating to knowledge management, bring together and facilitate communications between those doing face-to-face in UNICEF, via workshops, social media, and iFon and on an ad-hoc basis. Create & share global resources – e.g. scripts, presenters, best practice manuals. Be responsible for the relevant pages on iFon.

7. Work alongside other pledge specialists to achieve efficient strategic and tactical intervention in markets, supporting them in their pledge income growth.

8. In addition to these duties, the incumbent will also provide support to markets in the event of a significant media-driven emergency. Furthermore, the incumbent will remain sensitive to risk in the programs that he/she is supporting, and escalate as necessary.

Profile

Experience

· At least 5 years hands-on experience of TM fundraising, including:

- Training fundraisers

- Budgeting, performance management and pay schemes.

- preparing materials & scripts

- analyzing& reporting on donor recruitment including long term attrition

- Follow-up communications plans & materials

- Quality control and risk management

· Experience of negotiating contracts and enforcing contractual terms with TM agencies, preferably across diverse markets.

· Global experience of TM in diverse markets in Europe, Asia and/or the Americas.

· It would be an advantage if the person had gained the above experience in both agency and charity environments.

Desirable

· An understanding of legislation affecting Telemarketing

· Experience of integrated multi-channel fundraising.

· It would also be an advantage if the person has experience of other pledge fundraising and lead generation channels.

Technical Knowledge:

· Proven ability to coordinate complex, multi-million dollar programs and work with senior level management.

· Thorough and current knowledge of TM trends across multiple markets.

· Demonstrated ability to work in a multi-cultural environment, and to establish harmonious and effective working relationships both within and outside the organization.

· Demonstrated ability to devise, plan, develop and implement strategies and projects.

· Proven ability to deliver to targets and demonstrated experience of results-based management.

· Demonstrated ability to innovate and communicate ideas effectively.

· Ability to work under pressure and to manage multiple priorities.

· Strong analytical, negotiating and communication skills.

· Strong presentation skills

Education

· Advanced University degree in any of the following: Business Administration, Economics, Marketing, Fundraising, Social Sciences, Public Administration, International Relations, or equivalent.

· A first level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Languages

· Fluency in English is essential.

· Working knowledge of at least one other UN language an important asset, with Spanish especially valued.
