Mr. Jacob Dickman is currently a Training Officer with the Chicago Fire Department. In this position, he was instrumental in creating a training model using satellite training sites that is currently in use by the department. He also created the overall department training schedule for the North Atlantic Treaty Organization awareness training in January 2012. In addition, Mr. Dickman, along with a partner, founded the Emergency Management Research Group Inc., which is currently working on creating business development and continuity center models, as well as combining new technologies to facilitate business development and recovery from disasters.

Mr. Dickman is currently a Ph.D. student, with a concentration in Emergency Management, at Capella University’s School of Public Safety Leadership. He holds an M.S. in threat and response management, with an administrative concentration, from the University of Chicago, and a B.A. in management from Benedictine University. He received his bachelor’s degree with summa cum laude honors.

Mr. Dickman is a member of the Sigma Beta Delta international honor society in business, management, and administration. He was also the student chapter vice president of the University of Chicago International Association of Emergency Managers student chapter.

Mr. Dickman completed a collaborative study called “Measuring the Assumption Gap” that was presented at the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Higher Education Conference in June of 2011 and the American Society of Public Administration Conference in March of 2012. He has also peer-reviewed six articles to date for the Journal of Emergency Management. The study is currently available for reading at the 2011 FEMA Higher Education web site.
