Tragic Heroes in Antigone and Things Fall Apart
For this assignment, you will write a five paragraph compare and contrast essay. You will be comparing the tragic heroes of the two major works of literature we have read this semester: Antigone and Things Fall Apart. This five paragraph compare and contrast essay will answer the following question: Who is a truer tragic hero and why? That is, which character better embodies the qualities of a traditional tragic hero?
Follow these steps:
1) Identify the tragic hero of Antigone.
2) Identify the tragic hero of Things Fall Apart.
3) Make a list for each tragic hero that identifies the tragic flaw, reversal of fortune, and lesson learned by each tragic hero.
4) Craft a three-part thesis that answers the guiding question essay prompt (Who is a truer tragic hero and why?).
5) Write a rough draft of a five paragraph essay.
6) Revise/proofread. Make sure your essay answers the question prompt!!!
7) Write a final draft.
Turn in your planning and rough draft with the final draft. If you will not be here on the day this assignment is due, you must turn it in to me the day before or email it to me by 3 pm the day it is due.
