Trade Commissioner for Canada in Brisbane

The Consulate General of Canada in Sydney is extending its reach to Queensland and seeks a results-oriented individual based in Brisbane to undertake lead generation and client service activities for a period of two years, beginning in June 2013. You will work as a member of the Canadian Trade Commissioner Service to facilitate trade, investment and innovation partnerships for our clients, leading to an enhanced commercial relationship. Your success will be measured in terms of client success, client satisfaction and the growth of your client base. Depending on the results achieved over the two year period, an extension may be considered.

The successful candidate must fulfill the following criteria:

· Completed a degree from a recognized university in commerce, business development, business administration or a related field of study.

· Minimum of three years’ experience in business development, trade and investment promotion, or a related field, preferably in the Queensland market.

· Fluent to a high standard of spoken and written English.

· Possess a valid driver’s license.

Candidates will be assessed against the following knowledge and skills:

Knowledge:

· Knowledge of Canada’s trade and economic objectives and relations with Australia.

· Knowledge of issues relevant to Canada-Australia commercial relations.

· Familiarity with the current international economic context, trends and challenges.

· Understanding of Australian market dynamics and business practices.

Skills:

· Oral and written communication/presentation skills.

· Ability to self-motivate and work independently.

· Strong networking and client relationship building skills.

· Ability to produce results for clients, foster partnerships, lead, and work as a team member.

· Ability to use standard information technology tools and social media for business development purposes.

· Ability to manage projects and budgets, and to record results.

Salary: $86,158 - $99,016 gross per annum, plus 10% superannuation

The ability to communicate in French and prior experience working with Canadian companies in Australia or Australian companies in Canada will be considered an asset. Only Australian citizens, permanent residents or those holding a valid visa permitting them to work in Australia will be eligible for this position.
