RE: Re: Fire Emergency Training Schedule and Sessions for 2010.

Heads of Departments have a commitment to comply with FMC policies through their managers and supervisors of workgroups to ensure all staff attends regular 12 monthly Fire Training. This must be done to meet OHS&W Regulations - Division 2.6.2 (4b), EQuIP 4 requirements and FMC OHS&W Manual - Policy 5.6.

During the first week of any current month an attendance notification will be automatically generated by database and sent to Heads of Departments, Managers and/or Supervisors of personnel working for them who are due or over due for training.

The aim of the schedule set out below is to allow me to spread training sessions over the year and to allow you to be able to plan in advance the release of staff for their annual Fire & Emergency Training. Hopefully this will minimise workplace disruption and improve attendance.

Fire Emergency Training Sessions combining both theory and practical sessions (approx. 1hr 15mins) will be held most Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9:00am and again at 2:00pm. The morning sessions will start with the theory followed by the practical use of fire equipment. The afternoon sessions will begin with the practical component followed by the theory session. Attendees need to bring a pen to fire training.

View the attachment for the session locations.

Staff may wish to attend the theory on one day and the practical on another. This will give the option of breaking the full session up into two segments.

Please find a date and venue sheet as an attachment on this email.

If staff are unable to attend a session they can view the Fire Training Presentation link which can be located online on the Inside Southern Health home page. ‘CLICK’ Emergency and Disaster plans….’CLICK’ Flinders Medical Centre. The Fire Training Link is in the top left hand side of the page. ‘CLICK’ on this to access.

Download the questionnaire and fill in after viewing the video. Ensure they have ticked the DVD/Intranet box, and hand to their manager/supervisor for marking. Managers/supervisors to pass on to the Fire Safety Officer as soon as possible for entry into the training database.

Training can also be accessed through the CNMER home page.

I also have this talk on DVD for loan to departments.

If a staff member misses a session they are welcome to attend at another time during that month. Please contact the Fire Safety Officer to make mutual arrangements via e-mail.

Evacuation Exercises.

Heads of Departments through their managers and supervisors of workgroups shall ensure regular evacuation exercises are conducted ‘at least once in each 12 month period’. (AS 3745 sec. 3.2.4. and EQuIP4 requirements).

Mock evacuations will commence from January 2010. I will endeavor to give Wardens 2 weeks notice.

Where two or more departments or workgroups share a compartment then they shall combine to effect an evacuation by all staff in the whole compartment.

The Floor Wardens in each compartment should plan and conduct the exercise and prepare a written report of the exercise at the conclusion to gain experience in an evacuation scenario.

The Fire Safety Officer can be contacted for advice, to act as an observer, to have the ‘alert’ & ‘evacuation” tones activated and to attend the post exercise debrief. It is the responsibility of local management / wardens to make these arrangements.
