Grade: 7 / Department: Library & Information Services Division
Accountable to: Director of LISD / Responsible for: N/A
Job summary: To work as part of a small team developing and supporting software and database applications while ensuring that applications are documented and installed and developed at agreed standards and with best practice in mind.
Competency: Communication
Key tasks:
·  To communicate effectively with other developers and with clients to ensure satisfactory delivery of projects.
·  To communicate with colleagues in the Helpdesk, Project Management and IT Infrastructure Services to ensure satisfactory information flows.
·  To deliver training to colleagues as necessary.
Competency: Initiative and Problem Solving
Key tasks:
·  To carry out all the stages of system development, including: analysis of requirements, system and database design, programming and testing.
·  To find innovative means of resolving development and installation problems.
·  To write interfaces between business information systems.
·  Documenting all the stages of development for each project.
Competency: Planning and Organising Resources
Key tasks:
·  To set priorities in conjunction with other developers and with clients and to manage time and other resources in meeting priorities and objectives.
·  Planning and carrying out implementation tasks.
Flexibility: To deliver services effectively, a degree of flexibility is needed, and the post holder may be required to perform work not specifically referred to above.
