Future tenses

In English, there are many different ways of talking about the future, depending on how we see a future event.

There are seven different types of verb forms used to express future tense:

1. Present Simple:

Usage: 1- for a timetable: The train leaves at seven twenty-three tomorrow morning.

2- for a definite future arrangement: The boys start school on Monday.

Ekvivalenti kojima se Present Simple Tense prevodi u srpski jezik, koji je upotrebljen

da iskaže buduću radnju, je najčešće Prezent :

a) za raspored- The train leaves at seven twenty-three tomorrow morning - Voz polazi u sedam i dvadeset tri sutra ujutru. – Prezent

-Our plain arrives at 7.30 tomorrow morning. – Naš avion stiže u 7.30 sutra ujutru.

-Her bus leaves at noon. – Njen autobus odlazi u podne.

-School year starts next week. – Školska godina počinje sledeće nedelje.

-What time does the next train leave for Boston? – U koliko sati polazi sledeći voz za Boston?

b) za odredeni budući dogovor - The boys start school on Monday. - Dečaci kreću u školu u ponedeljak. – Prezent

-Spring starts a day earlier this year. – Proleće će početi dan ranije ove godine. – Futur I

2. Present Continuous:

Usage: 1- for definite arrangements in the near future-. Bob and Bill are meeting tonight

2- to express a decision or plan without any definite arrangements; someone can say-

I am leaving tonight. , even before he/she has arranged his/her journey

The Present Continuous, upotrebljen za buduću radnju u srpskom jeziku se prevodi Prezentom i Futurom I:

a) za odredene dogovore u bliskoj bududnosti- Bob and Bill are meeting tonight - Bob i Bil se sastaju veceras. – Prezent

-I’m seeing Mary tomorrow. – Sutra ću se videti sa Mery. – Futur I

-My mother is coming to dinner tomorrow. – Moja mama dolazi na večeru sutra. - Prezent

3. The be going to:

Usage: 1- to talk about something we have decided to do (an intention) - Emma is going to do an experiment this afternoon.

a) for the near future with a time expression as an alternative to the present continuous-

I am meeting/ l am going to meet Tom at the station at six.

b) with time clauses when we wish to emphasize the subject's intention-

He is going to be a dentist when he grows up.

c) can be used without a time expression (usually refers to the immediate or near future)-

I am going to play you a Bach fugue.

2- for a prediction based on the present situation, when we can see that something is going to happen - My sister is going to have a baby in March.

a) Be going to can express the speaker's feeling of certainty. – The sky is dark. It is going to rain.

Be going to- je vreme koje se vrlo često upotrebljava u engleskom jeziku i u srpski jezik ga

prevodimo Futurom Prvim i Prezentom.

a) za donete odluke i namere- I am meeting/ l am going to meet Tom at the station at six. -

Videću se/ Idem da se vidim sa Tomom večeras. – Futur I/Prezent

-He is going to be a dentist when he grows up.- On će biti zubar kad poraste. - Futur I

-I am going to play you a Bach fugue.- Odsviraću ti Bahovu fugu. – Futur I

-We are going to Spain this summer! – Idemo/ Ići ćemo u Španiju ovog leta. – Prezent/ Futur I

-Are you going out on Friday? – Hoćeš izaći u petak? – Futur I

b) za pretpostavke koje se zasnivaju na sadašnjim situacijama- My sister is going to have a baby in March. - Moja sestra će dobiti bebu u Martu. – Futur I

- The sky is dark. It is going to rain. – Nebo je crno. Padaće kiša. – Futur I

-I feel so weak. I’m going to faint. – Loše se osećam. Onesvestiću se. – Futur I

-Look at this car! It is going to crash into the yellow one. – Vidi ovaj auto! Udariće u onaj žuti. – Futur I

4. The Future Simple (will/ shall):

Usage: 1- to express speaker's opinions, assumptions, and speculations about the future- (I'm sure) he'll come back. (I suppose) they'll sell the house.

- the future simple can be used with or without a time expression

2- for future habitual actions which we assume will take place- Spring will come again. Birds will build nests.

The Future Simple se u srpskom jeziku prevodi Futurom I:

a) za mišljenja, pretpostavke- (I'm sure) he'll come back.- Sigurna sam da će se on vratiti.– FuturI

(I suppose) they'll sell the house. - Pretpostavljam da ce oni prodali kuću. – Futur I

-I’ll hand you the report as soon as I finish it. – Predaću vam izveštaj čim ga završim. – Futur I

-He will tell you the sicret. – On će ti reći tajnu. – Futur I

-She will marry him. – Ona će se udati za njega. – Futur I

b) za radnje koje se ponavljaju- Spring will come again. - Proleće će doći ponovo. – Futur I

Birds will build nests. - Ptice će izgraditi gnezda. – Futur I

- They will meet again. – Oni će se sresti ponovo. – Futur I

5. The Future Continuous Tense:

Usage: 1- for continuous actions; an action over a period of time- it means that at some time in the future we will be in the middle of an action:

I'll be out at three o'clock. I'll be playing golf.

This time next week we'll be sitting on the beach.

2- for single actions; an action which will happen in the course of events because it is part of a plan or part of a schedule of future events: The party will be starting at ten o'clock. (part of the evening's events)

The ship will be sailing soon. (part of our journey)

The Future Continuous Tense se iz engleskog jezika prevodi u srpski jezik upotrebom Futura I:

a) za radnje koje će duže trajati u budućnosti- I'll be out at three o'clock. I'll be playing golf. - Biću napolju u tri sata. Igraću golf. – Futur I

This time next week we'll be sitting on the beach. - U ovo vreme sledeće nedelje sedećemo na plaži. – Futur I

-When you see me next time, I’ll be smiling and showing my new white teeth. – Kada me budeš ponovo videla, samo ću se smeškati i pokazivati svoje nove bele zube. – Futur I

-They’ll be singing at the concert tomorrow. – Oni će pevati na koncertu sutra. – Futur I

b) za radnje koje su deo nekog dogadjaja ili plana- The party will be starting at ten o'clock. - Zabava će početi u deset sati. – Futur I

The ship will be sailing soon. - Brod će isploviti uskoro. – Futur I

-When we arrive in England, it will probably be raining. – Kada stignemo u Englesku, verovatno će padati kiša. – Futur I

6. The Future Perfect:

Usage: 1- for an action that will be completed by a particular point in time- David will have had his exam next week, so he'll be able to enjoy himself.

2- with a time expression beginning with by: by then, by that time...

By the end of next month he will have been here for ten years.

The Future Perfect Tense se u srpski jezik prevodi najčešće Futurom I:

By the end of next month he will have been here for ten years. - Krajem sledećeg meseca biće deset godina kako smo ovde. – Futur I

David will have had his exam next week, so he'll be able to enjoy himself. - Dejvid će završiti sa ispitima sledeće nedelje, pa ce biti slobodan da uživa. – Futur I

-You’ll have burnt all this coal by the end of this month. – Potrošićeš sav ugalj do kraja meseca. – Futur I

7. The Future Perfect Continuous:

Usage: 1- for an action that will be going on by a particular moment in future- When I turn 50, I will have been working for 25 years.

The Future Perfect Continuous Tense se u srpski jezik prevodi Futurom I:

When I turn 50, I will have been working for 25 years. – Kada napunim 50, imaću tačno 25 godina radnog staža. – Futur I

-She will have been teaching for 20 years next February. – Sledećeg Februara će biti 20 godina kako predaje. – Futur I
