Why are we Sitting Here?
Christine Caine
Message Outline
II Kings 7: 3-4
3 Now there were four leprous men at the entrance of the gate; and they said to one another, “Why are we sitting here until we die? 4 If we say, ‘We will enter the city,’ the famine is in the city, and we shall die there. And if we sit here, we die also. Now therefore, come, let us surrender to the army of the Syrians. If they keep us alive, we shall live; and if they kill us, we shall only die.”
· The lepers had every reason to not move.
· The had nothing to lose and everything to gain.
Important Questions for us:
· Why are we sitting here until we die?
· What is it that we are waiting for?
· What is it that we are waiting for God to say or do?
If we keep doing church and our lives as usual, not only are we going to die, but there is a world that is dying and saying to us – Where are you church? We are crying and waiting for you to hear our cries. (Romans 8:22)
What is it that is keeping YOU at the gate? What’s stopping you from actually getting up and doing what God has called you to do?
1. FEAR – one of the greatest things that keeps women at the gate.
· Use TRUTH from God’s word to break fear.
2 Timothy 1:7 (NKJV) – For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
· Some of us need to break fears that have gripped and crippled us for years.
· Fears that can keep you at the gate: Culture? Tradition? Meeting people? Speaking? Being single? Intimidating people?
· When Christine encountered Jesus it meant she had to overcome certain fears.
· Sitting at the gate of fear will never go away until you make a decision to walk it out and begin to walk into the purpose of God.
2. LIMITATIONS – looking at what we don’t have isn’t going to help God do what He wants to do in and through our lives.
Examples from scripture of people looking at their limitations-
· Moses – BUT GOD… I can’t speak
· Jeremiah – BUT GOD… I’m just a youth
· Gideon – BUT GOD… my clan is least of the least and I am lowest of the low
We all have our BUT GOD…
· God never came because we were that good. Our giftedness, eloquence, resources, schooling, etc. – None of it would ever be big enough to do what a supernatural God wants to do in and through your life.
· It’s never enough because it is never about your limitation.
· As women we sometimes hide behind a “false humility” (I’m just shy, timid, God could never use a worm like me). The root of it is pride. We are saying that our limitation is greater than God’s ability in my life.
· God wants us to look up at His exceeding ability to do abundantly above and beyond anything you could ever ask, hope or think instead of at your limitations.
· But, But, But, But, But…. Have you ever tried to lead your life by your “But”? J
· Why are you sitting at the gate of limitation until you die?
