ELIZABETH OLIVER

Partnership Coordinator

The Urban Assembly School for Emergency Management

New York, New York

Ms. Elizabeth Oliver is the Partnership Coordinator at The Urban Assembly School for Emergency Management (UASEM) in New York, New York. She serves as the primary liaison between the school and its industry partners, and she is responsible for integrating the emergency management theme into nearly every aspect of student life and learning. Working closely with partners and UASEM’s emergency management teacher, Ms. Oliver helps to align the emergency management curriculum to industry needs and standards. She accumulates emergency management resources; organizes internships, visiting speakers, field trips, professional certifications, extracurricular clubs and volunteer opportunities; and develops creative ways to integrate emergency management into the core curriculum.

All of Ms. Oliver’s work at UASEM is informed by a truly interdisciplinary academic background and a diversity of professional experiences in teaching, journalism, civic engagement, and social justice. She became interested in emergency management while living in Burma amidst the aftermath of Cyclone Nargis. That experience eventually inspired a Master’s thesis about the ecological, social, and economic forces that shaped New York City’s water infrastructure and how those same forces continue to define how the city meets new challenges, such as climate change.
