The Superhero Film
Welcome to New College Swindon GCSE Film Studies. In order to prepare you for your new GCSE Film Studies course please complete the TWO tasks below.
The purpose of Task 1 is to provide us an insight into your personal taste and passion for film alongside your expectations from the course. Task 2 is deigned to develop your research skills and begin your analysis of movie language, alongside your knowledge of the superhero film genre that will make up one part of your exam next year.

Task 1
Firstly, please answer these short questions about your understanding of the subject of Film Studies:
1. What is your understanding of Film Studies as a subject?
2. What attracts you to the course as a new subject?
3. What are you most excited about as you approach the course and what makes you most nervous?
4. What sort of films do you currently watch?
Task 2
Part of your course next year will involve analysing The Superhero Film genre. In preparation, please complete this research project into the genre of superhero films:
5. Come up with your own definition of the superhero film?
6. Watch and make notes on the similarities of at least 3 superhero films (all made within the last decade). Your notes could include observations on: costume, setting, characters, story, cinematography, editing.
7. Use your notes to create an info graph of the conventions of a superhero film.
