COMMITTEE CHAIR Application
Fall 2010 – Spring 2011
The Student Leadership Program strives t o develop effective and essential leadership skills in students and student groups through comprehensive leadership education and diverse experiences.
Qualifications:
§ University of Wisconsin-Madison student
§ Ability to work in a collaborative team environment with the other chairs, SLP Coordinators, SLP members, the SLP advisor, and student body at large
§ Ability to work with diverse groups of people including but not limited to; difference of opinion, leadership style, culture, religion, sexual orientation, and ethnicity.
§ Ability to work toward developing a "campus-wide leadership development program" as stated in the UW-Madison strategic plan.
Expectations:
· Inspire A Shared Vision: Assist in the vision and goal development of SLP and work toward accomplishing the goals developed by your committee and the organization.
· Enable Others To Act: Involve, empower, assist and direct SLP members through the development, coordination and evaluation of SLP programs and services. Assist the SLP members in accomplishing their personal leadership goals by giving them the opportunities and experiences necessary to do so.
· Encouraging The Heart: Serve as a motivator and resource to the members of SLP and to the populations you serve.
· Challenge The Process: Think outside of the box, while still working in a collaborative style, share ideas, new initiatives, new ways of thinking that will strengthen and further develop the program.
· Model The Way: Serve as a role model for other students and student organizations through your position within the organization, while fulfilling SLP requirements.
Requirements :
§ Time Commitment:
o 1? hours bi-weekly for Committee Chair Training
o 1? hour bi-weekly General Member Meetings (must attend 4 of 5)
o 1 hour bi-weekly Committee Meetings directed by you
o 2-5 hours outside SLP as needed to complete Committee Chair Tasks and attend events
§ SLP Coordinator: Meet weekly with your SLP Coordinator.
§ Budget: Alongside the Financial Coordinator, manage the finances of your committee
Training: The Chairs will be expected to attend all training programs scheduled.
Positions Available
Leadership in Communication (LIC)
What we do: LIC strives to hold effective meetings and trainings in order to develop deliver and sustain the leadership message. You can attend any or all of these meetings. Each is equally valuable and informative! We focus on 3 tiers of leadership within yourself, the community and in the workplace.

Big Ten Leadership Network
What we do: The Big Ten Leadership Network plans three leadership speaker series per semester and is close to creating a satellite speakers series among the schools within the Big Ten Leadership Network

Emerging Leaders Program (ELP)
Mission: To provide leadership skills and training for freshmen and sophomores through interactive activities.

Students Advancing in Leadership (SAIL)
What we do: SAIL is a committee focused on the Student Leadership Practices Inventory. Through the committee, you learn how to incorporate these practices into your lives on campus and beyond graduation. In SAIL, you will not only perfect your leadership style, but have fun and make friends along the way! If you are looking for an extra challenge, SAIL is the committee for you!

Leadership Resource and Campus Relations (LRCR)
What we do: LRCR serves as a resource not only to SLP as an organization, but also to the other SLP committees. LRCR implements marketing strategies, provides liaisons to the campus community and promotes SLP.

Special Events
The Special Events committee is not a committee you can join, but is a small group of members that meet to plan social events for SLP. Some of their events include: volleyball teams, relay for life teams, fall and winter formals, and much more!

Leadership and Social Justice (LSJC)
What we do: LSJC brings attention and awareness to the relationship between leadership and social justice. We discuss and design events/programs to bring people interested in these issues together.

Organization Development Consultants (ODC)
What we do: ODC serves as a “help center’ for student organizations on campus. The consultants, who work closely with the Center for Leadership and Involvement (CfLI), are available for help dealing with a variety of organization management issues (i.e. hosting effective meetings, finding and using campus resources, as well as solving problems involving events, members and running an organization. If you are interested in this position, please contact Alex, as there is a separate application process.

Student Consultants and Speakers Bureau (SCSB)
What we do: SCSB trains its members to be facilitators for personalized, informational, and interactive workshops that are offered to all students and student groups on campus. The topics covered are dependent on the requests submitted by campus and community groups.

All-Campus Leadership Conference (ACLC)
What we do: Create SLP’s Annual Leadership Conference from the ground up. This conference takes place in February and last year we hosted 800+ UW students. The committee works together through the fall on tasks such as: Conference theme, marketing plans, keynote speakers, breakout sessions, menu, room reservations and much more!

Leadership Through Volunteering (LTV)
What we do: Collaboration with other student groups and community organizations that do community service and help the organization see the importance in leadership while volunteering.
