Minutes of the Boeing Employees’ Railroad Club - St Louis Regular Meeting – March 11, 2014
The meeting was called to order by President Kevin Brown at 7:00pm in the Bridgeton Trails Branch of the St Louis County Library with 22 in attendance. This meets the quorum of 10. The club welcomed back Ken Risley now that he has retired.
OFFICERS’ REPORTS
Secretary – George Rees (Dale Schuk temporary stand-in) – The minutes of the February meeting were accepted as printed in the Roundhouse Review. Motion to accept was made by Bill Dowdy. Motion was seconded by Bob Keeler. Motion passed.
Treasurer –Mike Chizmar – The Treasurer’s report for February was postponed until next meeting.
CONDUCTOR’S REPORTS
Swap Meet – Wayne Schimmel – The swap meet went well. We only had 617 people pay at the door, and someone told me that somebody was letting people in at the north door. At times it looked like there were a lot more people than 617. Overall it went well with very few problems. Wayne will have a more concise report next month with the Wienhardt bill paid.
Roundhouse Review – Ron Hardy – Any items you wish to have included in the March newsletter will need to be in by March 25. Items for the April newsletter need to be in by April 29th.
Library – George Rees (Bill Dowdy reporting for George) – We have one book checked out on NKP. Call Bill if you need access to the club’s library while George is out.
Club Contest – Bob Keeler –
The next contest due at the April 2014 meeting is for a critter. If you’ve looked at the critter books, in the library, you know that the possibilities are endless, from very simple and small up to the 45 ton switchers. The rules are that you can scratch build, kit bash or use ready-built that has added details. The critter can be, but does not have to be, powered. Up to three entrees per person can be entered but only one winner per person.
Tools – Bob Keeler – No report.
Freight Agent – None at this time.
Programs – Rich Velten presented a program on Northlandz – Great American Railway model train museum in Flemington, NJ.
Magazines – Dale Schuk – The following magazines are still missing: Mainline Modeler – Nov 2004, Feb 2006; Railfan & Railroad – May 2011; Passenger Train Journal – 2011.1; Classic Trains – Spring 2011; and the Railroad Press – Apr-Jun 2011
The following magazines are overdue: Model Railroader – Nov 2013; NMRA Bulletin - Nov 2013, Dec 2013; Railfan & Railroad - Dec 2013; Railroad Model Craftsman – Oct 2013; Trains – Dec 2013, Jan 2014; and Classic Trains - Winter 2013.
Videos – Dale Schuk – I’ll give Rich Velten more videos to convert at the May meeting.
HO Modules – Jim McClain/Kevin Brown –
· We setup for the swap meet. Kevin extended one of the control cables so the extra 6 foot yard module could be included.
· Dave Bevfoden was able to transport the layout to his place in Union for some upgrades in preparation for the Redfield, SD show.
· Dave to establish work days and give directions. A signup sheet was available for people to sign up to help out. Several club members did signup.
· Would like to solicit Fred Houska to paint backdrops.
·
N Scale Modules – Tom Mallien/Bob Keeler –
· Setting up at the Decatur show April 11, 12, 13 (setup Friday the 11th). Tom plans to be there Friday but won’t be there Saturday due to the IT annual meeting. He will be there on Sunday. A show of hands for Decatur yield 6 people willing to support.
· Tom and Bob will be meeting with John Paladino to discuss setting up at the St. Louis Union Station Hotel for the National Train Day, May 10-11. Note that the 11th is Mothers Day.
Web Site – Mark Rudy – No report.
Trailers – Bob Leight – No report. HO trailer is at Dave Bevfoden’s house. Kevin said he got new bungee cords for trailer wheel covers.
Museum Volunteers – Bob Leight – No report – Ground frozen.
Old Business –
Redfield, SD HO layout setup. Dave Bevfoden – We are in the process of incorporating Vince York’s comments for the agreement.
Christmas party: Bill Dowdy- Couldn’t get group tickets on Amtrak out to Washington so we are going up to Springfield, IL. It will not be a full day trip like we’ve done in the past when we went to the Lincoln Library. Rich Velten made a motion to change Xmas trip to Springfield. Bob Keeler seconded. Motion passed. Current plans are to leave Alton 3:45p, arrive in Springfield 5:00p, leave Springfield 8:40p, arrive Alton 9:50p. We can use taxis to get from the Springfield station to the restaurant and of course the return.
Other Old Business: None
New Business –
Ron Hardy mentioned that he will be retiring sometime in the future (Oct 1) and will not be able to print out the Roundhouse Review newsletter.
Kevin talked with Jerry Warren in security about getting badges to the retirees who haul the trailer. There are no badges available but Jerry said that all we need is some additional information for the individuals on the access list then he will forward the list to the guards. We will also need to keep a list with the retiree who is hauling the trailer (keep a copy in each trailer). We will update the list on an annual basis.
Kevin has been notified that Michael Chizmar’s term as treasurer is going to expire in April 2015. Need to find an active employee replacement. Any takers?
Other New Business?
Announcements –
John Huebner had some eye surgery. The club wishes him a speedy recovery.
Someone mention that the Alton station will be going through an upgrade. Parking may be a problem for the Christmas trip. Encourage carpooling.
Next meeting will be April 8th in the big room at the library. Note that the April 8th meeting will start at 7:30. The county election committee will be using the room until 7:00 or 7:30. We hopefully won’t have to wait too long for the room to become available.
Bring and Brag –
Sally Young brought in the special N scale passenger train she received from George Rees and John Huebner at her Boeing retirement party. Theme of the train has something to do with the “Wicked Witch” legacy she has left behind at Boeing.
Door prize was awarded to Don Bevfoden.
Meeting was adjourned at 7:30 pm.
Respectfully Submitted
Dale Schuk, acting Secretary
