I.  General Information

The Lois W. Precythe Teacher Scholarship will be awarded annually to a North Duplin High School senior, based on merit, who plans to attend any institution of higher education to pursue their career in teaching. This scholarship is to help insure that a student who has excelled academically and who plans to teach is provided recognition for their achievement.

The scholarship will be for a value of $5,000 ($1,250 per year for 4 consecutive years). Once the student has been selected for the scholarship, the student must complete the Scholarship Verification form and send copies to the Education Foundation and the attending college. Upon receipt of notification of enrollment by the college or university, the payment will be made directly to the college or university. Payment may be made prior to enrollment only if the college or university requires it.

Precythe scholarship funds that are awarded must be utilized within 9 consecutive semesters from the scholarship award inception.

II.  Application Procedures:

1.  Any North Duplin senior who meets the criteria may make application. Applications for the Lois W. Precythe Teacher Scholarship may be obtained from the North Duplin High School principal, school counselor, or online at www.duplinschools.net.

2.  The application must be completed (in its entirety) and returned to the principal or school counselor by the announced deadline.

3.  An applicant must have an SAT score of 950 and at least a 90 average.

4.  Rank in class, overall grades, participation in extra-curricular activities and community service will be a consideration.

5.  Two letters of recommendation must accompany the application when it is submitted. No recommendation should be submitted by a relative.

a.  One letter should be from an individual who is not school connected.

b.  One letter should be from a teacher who taught the student during high school.

III.  Selection Procedures:

1.  The Lois W. Precythe Teacher Scholarship will be determined by the Duplin County Education Foundation Scholarship Committee. The Education Foundation Scholarship Committee will determine the finalists and they will be required to attend an interview.

2.  The award will be given at the M. Austin Carter Academic Awards Celebration. Student applicants are asked to be present at the celebration.

·  List all academic honors and extra-curricular/community activities separately by grade year (9th, 10th, 11th, 12th).
