TOPIC 1: Seeing Double: Twins on Ultrasound - Ultrasound screening of twin pregnancies will be discussed including the types of twinning, management and complications in twin pregnancies, and identifying chorionicity and amnionicity. Ultrasound findings regarding twinning will be explored.

TOPIC 2: Mammography CSI - What is the difference between a crime scene investigator and a diagnostic mammography technologist? This presentation will take a look at what a diagnostic mammography technologist does through exploring different case studies.

TOPIC 3: Direct Digital Imaging and the Use of Distance in Imaging - Direct Digital Imaging is at the forefront of image acquisition. In this presentation you will learn the history leading up to the Direct Panel Receptor, its construction, and how Fourier Transforms interpret the data to produce an image. You will be given two technique charts to use with digital acquisitions. You will also learn why distance enhances the image and reduces the patient skin exposure dose.

Much has transpired since Roentgen's discovery to bring us to the point where diagnostic and interventional radiology now work hand in hand. Today we will be exploring IR procedures and the tools used to perform them.

TOPIC 5: Acute Pelvic Pain in the Non- Pregnant Patient Using Ultrasound - A review of the most common causes of pelvic pain in non-pregnant patients will be presented. Unusual causes of acute pelvic pain along with the clinical utility of spectral & color doppler will be discussed as well as different pathologies in acute cases.

TOPIC 7: Digital Dilemmas with Your CR System – Basic principles of digital radiographic imaging technology are discussed when utilizing a Computed Radiography (CR) System in the medical facility. This discussion will cover the frustrations of technologist and physicians and missing links in answers to questions like: What technical factors to use; what is the required dose for a procedure (ALARA), and what is a good CR processed image. Discussion includes an overview of cassette-based image receptor construction, as well as a brief look at the dynamic range capabilities of digital imaging systems.

TOPIC 9: Patient with Acute Scrotal Pain Using Ultrasound - This presentation will review the role of the sonographer in the evaluation of patients with acute scrotal pain. Imaging will be shown to differentiate testicular torsion from infection and other less common causes of scrotal pain.

TOPIC 10: Patient Radiation Exposures Associated with Mammographic Imaging - With recent media coverage of radiation burns and CT scanners, questions often arise about the amounts of radiation doses delivered with other radiologic modalities – including mammography. This lecture will review the various methods of reporting dose in mammography and the overall risks to the patient.

TOPIC 11: Current Concepts and Advances in Sports Medicine Imaging - This presentation will discuss the current role of imaging in sports medicine and sports related injuries. Various imaging modalities will be discussed, including musculoskeletal sonography and state of the art magnetic resonance imaging techniques. A spectrum of joint internal derangements and traumatic injuries, as well as postoperative evaluation and complications, will be discussed. Emerging technologies and future directions of imaging will also be presented.

This talk brings to the forefront the issues that technologists deal with on a daily basis and how to circumvent the natural tendency to burn out. There will be practical suggestions for mammography technologists to deal with stress during their work day.

TOPIC 16: Part 2 PET/CT: FDG PET/CT Scan... A PRIMER - This talk will serve as an introduction to FDG PET/CT imaging discussing the basic acquisition techniques and protocols. In addition, we will discuss the normal physiological distribution of tracer activity for a typical whole body scan. We will also discuss the more common incidental PET findings and other normal variants. The phenomenon of brown fat activity will be discussed briefly.
