Community Spotlight: Manatee Glens Receives Evans Family Charitable Fund Grant from Manatee Community Foundation
MCF Board Member Karen Miller and MG CIO Janet GinnBRADENTON– Manatee Glens Children’s Day Program was awarded a $2,000 grant from the Evans Family Charitable Fund of the Manatee Community Foundation. In collaboration with the Manatee County Schools, the day program addresses the needs of more than 130 elementary and middle school students each year who benefit from intensive therapies in an educational setting. The grant money will be used to purchase educational supplies, therapeutic items and support materials.
“These materials help our students communicate their feelings, boost self-esteem and self-confidence, and focus on learning,” explained Manatee Glens Chief Development Officer Janet Ginn, CFRE. “We are so grateful for this grant. It will make therapy more effective for these children and encourage their growth.”
Children in the program receive assessments and coaching to address their unique needs from Manatee Glens medical and clinical staff. Students earn points for positive behaviors and meeting their goals. Points can be redeemed for educational toys and supplies. Students also receive special recognition and extra computer time.
“The students really bloom under positive reinforcement. They gain confidence that they can tackle the problems that once were a struggle for them,” says Melanie Teves-Bell Vice President for Outpatient Services at Manatee Glens.
The Manatee Glens Children’s Day Program follows the Manatee County Schools curriculum so that when students return to the traditional classroom they are up-to-speed. Support from Manatee Glens continues for the student and his/her family through counseling, psychiatric care or in home services.
