PowerPoint template (file “houseof” should be downloaded from www.vickiblackwell.com/templates.html ... there is a black and white version or a color version to choose from)
Kidspiration (or word processing program such as MS Word)

Procedures: / :  The teacher will create Learning Teams of six students who will work together and publish information on a certain theme, subject, or content standard. Learning teams will conduct research, gather graphics and go through the writing process to compose their paragraph. All decisions will be made before ever going to the computer.
:  Once the preliminary work is done, Learning Partners work on one PowerPoint template in which each pair completes one side of the House booklet. Each student places one graphic in a window of the House template (ppt file) with all six windows eventually being filled by the Team. The students who work on the front of the house, should also put the name of the house in the text box above the front door.
:  After the window is filled with graphic, Learning Partners save their file and open Kidspiration, going directly to the writing view. Partners take turns typing their paragraph of information on one of the “index card” text boxes, then save and print.
:  When all six members of the Learning Team have completed their computer projects, the House of… is cut out and taped together with the paragraphs glued/taped on the inside of the house. If the black and white PPT template is used, students will need to color the sides of their house using makers or crayons.
