Compare and Contrast

Lord of the flies VS The Hunger Games

By: William Golding By: Suzanne Collins

Although the books “Lord of the flies” By William Golding and “The Hunger Games” By Suzanne Collins have different circumstances and different situations both books have a similar theme. The theme is when nothing else matters but staying alive, people become different.

Both stories are very different. You have the Hunger Games that the main characters have been trained to survive. While in the Lord of the flies the main characters have to learn to survive without any training or even warning that they were going to be abandoned on this island. Also another thing that is different is that the Hunger Games has many different themes, while the Lord of the flies only has one maybe two. Yes in the lord of the flies all the boys might have had it hard, but they didn’t have 22 other people coming after them trying to kill them. Both of the stories had different circumstances, but were also had some things in common.

The common theme as stated above is when nothing else matters but staying alive, people become different, and they do change. They change into the people they need to be to be able to survive. This change could be for the better, but also could be for the worse. Both books had characters that had to be put up with practically everything against them. They also were kind of put to a kind of “survival of the fittest” scenario. If you couldn’t hold your weight you lost, and were badly injured, disappeared, or died, and not all survived.

In conclusion, both books are wonderful. Even though they are different in a couple of ways, they still have a wonderful story line. The theme(s) of these books are very interesting, intriguing, and entertaining. It makes you kind of grateful knowing that we are not in their situation. It also helps you understand that even when everything is against you as long as you have someone to lean on, you can survive anything.
