I. CALL TO ORDER (2:20 p.m.)

B. Approval of January 30, 2007 minutes

Speaker Marini called for a motion to approve the minutes for January 30, 2007.

Senator Wagoner so motioned, seconded by Senator Lawson.

A vote was taken.

Be it resolved, the Monroe Community College Brighton Campus Student Government Association unanimously approves the January 30, 2007 minutes as written.

II. SPEAK TO THE SENATE

Tony DiFabio, Peer Mentor, presented information regarding the Third Annual Anti-Violence Program which will be taking place on April 18, 2007. He also passed out Anti-Violence Pledge Cards and asked everyone present to sign one.

Marette Berkowitz, Peer Mentor, presented information regarding a program on Epilepsy, Dispel the Myths. Monday, February 12, Michael Radell, a Community Educator from the Epilepsy Foundation, will speak at noon in Monroe B. Friday, February 16, three adults who have Epilepsy will be here to share their experiences.

Jaime Smith, CAB Coordinator, thanked the SGA members who helped with Activity Day. He also mentioned two programs being sponsored by CAB; Dick Gregory, comedian and activist, will be here on Monday, February 12, at 7:00 p.m. in Monroe A&B and Ellen Gootblatt, relationships expert, will be here on February 13, at 7:00 p.m. in the Theatre and on February 14, at noon in the Theatre.

III. REPORTS

A. Senator Reports

Senator Dentico…

Ø Civility – he and Senator Pannoni have been working with Advisor Stewart focusing on the vandalism aspect of civility around campus.

Ø Fund Requests – he has been working with some of the clubs who will be coming before the Senate with fund requests; he also learned about some communication issues.

Ø Intersession – he helped with orientation; attended the winter leadership retreat; was offered a new position as RA for Residence Life.

Ø Other Projects - the CERT Program and brainstorming for an emergency team for MCC.

Senator Pannoni…

Ø MCC Tennis team – many students have been inquiring about why MCC no longer has a tennis team. She will be meeting with Murph Shapiro about the status of the tennis team.

Ø "Mock Rock Video" – she participated in the program sponsored by CAB on Friday, February 2; once Tom Priester made his debut singing "My Girl," many students lined up to take a turn.

Senator Quider…

Ø Budgets – he has been meeting with the Engineer Leadership Council regarding trip planning and future budgets.

Ø Super Bowl Party was a great success; he thanked all who helped and participated.

B. Faculty Advisor

Faculty Advisor McCauley encouraged everyone to attend the Dick Gregory program; he is a wonderful speaker and brings a message we all need to hear.

IV. NEW BUSINESS

1. ACTION ITEMS (Items requiring a Senate vote)

a. Martial Arts Club

Resolved, that the Brighton Campus Student Government Association approve the petition to charter the Martial Arts Club.

Senator Marini called for a motion to approve the petition to charter the Martial Arts Club.

Senator Wagoner so motioned, seconded by Senator Stevenson.

Discussion:

Esron Scott spoke on behalf of the Martial Arts Club and explained that martial arts explores a wider variety of karate unlike the other clubs currently chartered which practice only one style. The hope is to bring in students who are interested in practicing different styles of karate.

Shirley Batistta-Provost and Annette Agness explained that students participating in a karate club must be enrolled in the school’s insurance plan, be covered under their own or parents outside insurance plan and the MCC Association would have to carry insurance.

Advisors Stewart and McCauley explained that the club could be chartered but before sparing or physical contact could take place an advisor with a Black Belt and insurance would have to be secured.

A vote was taken.

Be it resolved, the Monroe Community College Brighton Campus Student Government Association approves the petition to charter the Martial Arts Club pending insurance and an advisor with a Black Belt.

b. MCC Ballroom and Latin Dance Club

Resolved, that the Brighton Campus Student Government Association approve the petition to charter the MCC Ballroom and Latin Dance Club.

Senator Marini called for a motion to approve the petition to charter the MCC Ballroom and Latin Dance Club.

Senator Wagoner so motioned, seconded by Senator Lawson.

Discussion:

Senator Lawson explained that this club has been waiting for a long time to have their charter approved. He met with the advisors and club officers and the necessary changes to their constitution have been made.

A vote was taken.

Be it resolved, the Monroe Community College Brighton Campus Student Government Association approves the petition to charter the MCC Ballroom and Latin Dance Club.

c. Engineering Leadership Council

Resolved, that the Brighton Campus Student Government Association approve the documents brought forward by the Engineering Leadership Council, fulfilling their obligation as outlined in the By-laws.

Senator Marini called for a motion to approve the documents brought forward by the Engineering Leadership Council.

Senator Quider so motioned, seconded by Senator Stevenson.

A vote was taken.

d. WMCC the Fuse

Resolved, that the Brighton Campus Student Government Association approve the documents brought forward by WMCC the Fuse, fulfilling their obligation as outlined in the By-laws.

Senator Marini called for a motion to approve the documents brought forward by WMCC the Fuse.

Senator Stevenson so motioned, seconded by Senator Wagoner.

A vote was taken.

Be it resolved, the Monroe Community College Brighton Campus Student Government Association approves the documents brought forward by WMCC the Fuse.

e. Assistant Promotions Coordinator

Resolved, that the Brighton Campus Student Government Association approve the appointment of Brian Woodard as an Assistant Promotions Coordinator in the Presidential Cabinet for the remainder of the 2006-2007 academic year.

Senator Marini called for a motion to approve the appointment of Brian Woodard as an Assistant Promotions Coordinator.

Senator Pannoni so motioned, seconded by Senator Haefner.

Discussion:

President Madden explained that Brian has background and expertise in the area of promotions and is being brought on to work mainly with promotions for the upcoming elections.

A vote was taken.

Be it resolved, the Monroe Community College Brighton Campus Student Government Association approves the appointment of Brian Woodard as an Assistant Promotions Coordinator in the Presidential Cabinet for the remainder of the 2006-2007 academic year.

V. QUESTIONS & COMMENTS

Advisor Stewart asked about the Blood Drive taking place on Thursday.

Speaker Marini informed her that there are a lot of sign-ups; Senator Pannoni and Vice President Pruden will be manning a table in the Terrace Lounge on Wednesday to help promote the Blood Drive; and President Madden informed her that the sign-up numbers are a little below the first blood drive, but with walk-ins they expect to go over that number.

Advisor Stewart asked who was taking over the responsibilities for the Touch-a-Thon.

Speaker Marini informed her that he will be speaking with Senator Bickel; President Madden explained that communication with the liaison for the Touch –a-Thon has broken down; he has not received a response to the information that was sent out. The facility for the Touch-a-Thon is secured; they need to find people to participate. Advisor Stewart informed President Madden that she has contact information for the liaison.

Speaker Marini reminded everyone that the Blood Drive will be taking place on Thursday, February 8.

Donna Brennan added that the Red Cross has added an incentive to donating; anyone who attempts to donate will be put into a drawing for a digital camera.

VI. ADJOURNMENT

At 3:50 p.m. Senator Wagoner motioned to adjourn; Senator Stevwenson seconded the motion. The Senate meeting was adjourned.
