Position Title: Executive Director

Reports To: Pastor as Head of Staff and Learning Center Committee Members

BASIC FUNCTION:

The Executive Director has the overall responsibility of the Learning Center, which is operated by St. John’s Westminster Union Church (SJWUC), a combined congregation of the United Church of Christ and the Presbyterian Church USA. The Learning Center includes a Full Time Day Care Program, a Part Time Pre-School Program, and a School-aged Summer Camp. The Executive Director should project a friendly, cooperative and Christian atmosphere to everyone entering the Learning Center and/or Church facilities.

DIMENSION:

This is a full-time employment position. The Executive Director reports directly to the Pastor as Head of Staff and the Learning Center Committee. The Human Resource Committee and the Learning Center Committee are responsible for matters relating to personnel management and compensation.

QUALIFICATIONS:

· Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or the equivalent

with additional emphasis on management or leadership

· Proven track record as a a creative, energetic and innovative leader

· Demonstrated excellent communication skills, both oral and written, for children and adults

· Experienced teacher and manager with the vision to continue a program that is developmentally appropriate for the children we serve

PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITYS/ RESPONSIBILITIES:

· BUSINESS RELATED

- Help establish and meet budgetary goals for the Center

- Work with the Business Manager to develop quarterly budget projections and help in creating the annual budget for all Center programs

- Overall responsibility to ensure that the center is operating in accordance with SJWUC and state licensing standards.

- Writing and implementation of new rules, regulations, and policies

- Yearly review and suggested revision of the Parent guides, in consultation with the Learning Center Committee

- Suggestions to the SJWUC Human Resources Committee concerning the Employee Handbook

- Maintain a system for filing of important child and employee files

- Schedule and document in service trainings for SUTQ requirements

- Overall responsibility of documentation for SUTQ Binder and maintaining the SUTQ Binder as part of the program requirements

- Conduct annual Program Administration Scale review

- Write and implement annual Quality Improvement Plan based on the results from the Program Administration Scale review

- Help secure program enrollment in Learning Center Programs

- Give tours to prospective parents

- Respond to and document all complaints and concerns in a timely manner

- Oversee monthly newsletters to parents in each program

- Maintain program wait lists

- Ensure that SJWLC website and Facebook pages are updated and maintained regularly. Responsible for marketing and promotion of Learning Center Programs

- Prepare and submit monthly Learning Center Reports and attend monthly Learning Center Meetings

- Serve as liaison for the Learning Center for Building and other committees as required, including but not limited to Facilities, Council/Session, Human Resources, and Finance

- Coordinate all Special Events at the Learning Center

· TEACHER RELATED

- Maintain all staff files, both current and past

- Responsible for all conflict resolution for staff, with referral to Pastor as Head of Staff or HR Committee as necessary

- Attend and conduct quarterly Staff Meetings.

- Responsible for interviewing, hiring and documentation for all new staff (review resume and confirm background checks, confirm education level, call references, etc), with reporting to the HR committee of SJWUC

- Responsible for all corrective counseling with staff and termination, with appropriate documentation and further consultation with the HR committee of SJWUC,

- Conduct Orientation for new hires and secure State required documentation of the Orientation Training

- Conduct and record teacher observations on a routine basis

- Responsible for scheduling staff for daily hours, sick, and vacation days

- Implement Learning Center Curriculum, which is aligned with the principles of the Presbyterian Church USA and United Church of Christ

- Implement Learning Center Curriculum that is aligned with current Ohio Department of Education’s Standards Collect and review Teacher Lesson Plans

- Insure that all classrooms meet SUTQ and State Licensing requirements

- Responsible for Staff Annual Reviews and Annual Professional Development Plans

· OTHER

- Carry out various other tasks as assigned by the Head of Staff and/or Learning Center Committee

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The Program meets in two locations on our campus and the director is expected to spend time in both locations. The expectation is that the executive director would be available to parents and staff for certain hours daily in each area. The DayCare center is in an old church facility, on three levels, and requires the use of stairs between all levels. The Pre-School building is located in a separate building, and on one level, with church office and administration on the second level, again accessible via a stairway. We do not have an elevator in any building on the campus.

The known risks related to the job involve the usual risks when caring for children: exposure to bodily fluids, blood, feces, as well as behavioral risks such as bites, scratches or kicks from a child.
