Basic Criteria for American Legion Scholarship Awards

The student must be a resident of Missouri. Applicants must be under the age of 21, unmarried and a descendant * of a veteran with at least ninety days active service in the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines or Coast Guard, who received an honorable discharge for such service. A photocopy of the veteran’s DD214, discharge or separation notice must accompany the scholarship application. Any additional requirements for each scholarship are included in the descriptions below.

American Legion Scholarships

Eagle Scout of the Year; must have received the Eagle Scout Award. Deadline-April 20, 2015

Lillie Lois Ford Scholarship Fund; must have attended Boys or Girls State. Deadline- April 20, 2015

M.D. “Jack” Murphy Memorial Nurses Training Fund; must be training to be a Registered Nurse. Deadline- April 20, 2015.

Joseph J. Frank Scholarship; must be a descendant of a veteran and have attended Girls or Boys State. Deadline- April 20, 2015

Charles L. Bacon Memorial Scholarship; must be a member or a descendent of a member of the American Legion, the American Legion Auxiliary, or the Sons of the American Legion. Deadline- April 20, 2015

Erman W. Taylor Memorial Scholarship; given to a student planning on obtaining a degree in education. Applicants must be a descendent of a veteran who served 90 or more days of active duty in the armed forces and having an honorable discharge. Deadline- April 20, 2015

Shane Dean Voyles Memorial Scholarship; One student from each school may be nominated. The nominee should be deeply involved in community and school activities. This is due to guidance by March 2, 2015. See your counselor for more details or go to www.missourilegion.org.

Cuivre River Electric Scholarship - Applicant must permanently reside in Lincoln, Pike, St. Charles or Warren counties in Missouri. Due: May 1, 2015

Peoples Bank and Trust Co. Scholarship

This is a $1,000 scholarship per semester toward tuition and room and board. To be eligible you need a minimum cumulative GPA or 2.75, be a US citizen, attend high school in Lincoln County, Warren R-III, St. Dominic, or Fort Zumwalt. You will be judged based on ACT/SAT scores, honors/awards, positions of leadership, organization participation, employment/community service and your essay. You must get the application from your counselor and have it entirely completed and returned to your counselor by March 2, 2015.

ST. LOUIS AREA MENSA’S HEALTH MINDS SCHOLARSHIPS:

High school seniors who have been admitted to any accredited two year or four year institution who plan on pursuing a major in a mental health related field and have a GPA of at least a 3.0 are eligible. Applicants must include an official copy of their transcript and an essay. Essays must be typed, double spaced with one inch margins and on one side of the paper only. Word count must be between 250 and 500 and stating why they are pursuing a career in the field of mental health and how they plan on helping others. Application, essay, and transcript must be postmarked by March 1, 2015. See your counselor for an application.

St. Charles Community College

Scholarship applications for SCC for the 2015-2016 school year are now available. Completing the application will allow you to be eligible for both the SCC Foundation and Board of Trustee scholarships, based on specific award criteria. Application packets can be found at www.stchas.edu/scholarships or in the guidance office. They are due by 4:30 p.m. Monday, March 2, 2015 to Enrollment Services in Admin 1113.

Tony Munter Whistleblower Attorney Transparency Scholarship

The Tony Munter Whistleblower Attorney Transparency Scholarship is an opportunity for students who believe that transparency and accountability are critical virtues in either the private or the public sector.

This is a general one-time $500 scholarship for incoming college freshman and all undergraduate, community college, and law school students. Eligibility criteria include a 750-word essay on the importance of transparency and accountability in the student's current, desired, or future career. Deadline is June 15, 2015. Kush Arora Criminal Justice Reform Scholarship

The Kush Arora Criminal Justice Reform Scholarship is a great opportunity for students with an interest in criminal justice reform.

American Association of University Women-St. Charles

This year the St. Charles branch of AAUW will award two $500 scholarships to young moment who are high school seniors in a St. Charles MO County School. To be eligible, the young women must be in the upper 10% of her class, be active in community and school affairs, show evidence of high character, have a desire to make the most of her opportunities, and a willingness to do well in college. Please see your guidance counselor for an application. All applications must be received by March 13, 2015.

John W. McDevitt (Fourth Degree) Scholarships

Applicants must be attending a Catholic college or university in the United States, and a member in good standing of the Knights of Columbus or the son or daughter of such a member or deceased member. Deadline is March 1, 2015. Apply online at: http://www.kofc.org/un/en/scholarships/mcdevitt.html

IAABO-IAFO Scholarships

IAABO-IAFO is a local chapter of the International Association of Basketball Officials and Football Officials. This scholarship is open to all seniors attending college next year regardless of athletic involvement. IAABO-IAFO has twenty $1,000 scholarships to award the graduates of the 2014-2015 school year who have an un-weighted GPA of 3.0 or higher at the end of first semester senior year. Please see your guidance counselor for an application. All applications must be returned to your counselor by March 2, 2015.

Missouri S&T; SigEp Balanced Man scholarship is offered by Sigma Phi Epsilon for outstanding young men entering Missouri University of Science and Technology. Marine Corp League Richard Scott Haymes Detachment #1393 Scholarship:

PURPOSE – To grant Scholarships to qualified applicants who are pursuing full time undergraduate or technical training at a full time recognized institution.

ELIGIBILITY – Spouse, Children, Siblings, Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, and Step Children of an active duty, reserve duty or honorable discharged veteran of the United States Marine Corps or US Navy FMF Corpsman. Or a member of the Marine Corps League or Marine Corps League Women’s Auxiliary.

3.0 Grade Point Average or better on last GPA report.

A Graduate or Graduating Senior and resident from Warren County, Missouri

You also must write a 500 word essay describing how you define Marine Corps values. See you counselor for an application. Deadline is April 15, 2015.

Regions Riding Forward Scholarship Essay Contest

To qualify, students are asked to write and submit a short essay on an African-American person who has inspired them. High School seniors are eligible to apply for a $5,000 scholarship. MFA Foundation Scholarship

MFA Agri-Services Wentzville will be awarding 2 MFA Foundation Scholarships this year between 6 area high schools for $2,000 each. See your counselor for an application. The application is due back to your counselor by March 16, 2015.

Western Catholic Union Catholic High School Scholarship Application

To be eligible you must be a Western Catholic Union life or annuity member and at least one parent must also be a member. See guidance for an application. The deadline is March 1, 2015.

Missouri Athletic Administrator’s scholarships:

MIAAA annually offers a scholarship opportunity through an essay based application. They offer two $1,000 scholarships and two $500 scholarships across the state. Deadline is February 28, 2015.

Lake St. Louis:

The Ambassadors of Lake Saint Louis will award two college scholarships to two deserving high school seniors who live within the city limits of Lake Saint Louis and plan to attend an accredited post-secondary college or university in the state of Missouri. Each Ambassadors scholarship will be $1250. In addition to being a college-bound senior from Lake Saint Louis, selection criteria include the applicant’s academic standing, financial need, community service record, and extracurricular activities. A one-page, personal essay must be submitted along with your and your parent’s signatures on the cover letter and a completed Wentzville High School (WHS) college scholarship application form. Students in Lake Saint Louis not attending WHS are eligible for this scholarship and may obtain these application materials directly from the Ambassadors (www.lslambassadors.com) or from Guidance. The application deadline for this scholarship is Friday, March 13, 2015.

Finney Law Office is offering a $1000 scholarship to one high school or college-aged student who is interested in the legal field (or related fields such as political science, economics, criminal justice, etc).

Applicants will be asked to submit a video illustrating his or her interest in the legal field, or a related field. Anyone may apply, as long as a two or four-year university is in his or her future. There is no minimum GPA. The deadline to apply is February 28, 2015.

Anheuser-Busch Employee’s Credit Union and American Eagle Credit Union

They have announced their annual Vince Jacknewitz Scholarship Program for graduating high school seniors. Six $1500 scholarships will be offered to members of its Young Adult Financial Group. Applicants must be members of the Credit Union. Credit Union membership is open to anyone living or working in St. Louis City, St. Louis County, St. Charles County, Jefferson County, as well as Madison and ST. Clair County, IL. The scholarship will be awarded based on a three page essay, academic achievements, letters of recommendation, scholastic activities, and community involvement. Friends of St. Charles County Library:

Lincoln County Democrat Club’s Scholarship:

A $500 scholarship will be awarded to a Lincoln County resident going to a 4 year college or technical school and have a minimum GPA of 2.5. Come to guidance for an application. The deadline is April 1, 2015.

St. Charles County Arts Council

The St. Charles County Arts Council co-sponsors $500 scholarships for high school seniors who show that they plan to incorporate the arts into their lives after high school. These funds can be used in Broadcast Journalism, Electronic Journalism, Print Journalism, Dance, Theatre, Vocal Music, Instrumental Music, or Visual Arts. Applications must be postmarked by March 31, 2015 and include a complete application form, highs school transcripts, written teacher recommendation, and a 300-400 word, typed essay titled “How the Arts Impact My Life and Future Plans.” Applications are available at www.stcharlesart.org or in the guidance office.

Missouri Chapter of American Public Works Association:

The Missouri Chapter APWA and St. Louis Branch Scholarship programs are intended to recognize Missouri students who have excelled academically and personally, and who intend to enter the field of public works during their professional career. All scholarships are awarded on the basis of merit. Applicants must be residents of the state of Missouri at the time of application. Scholarships must be used at a Missouri college, university, or technical school. Scholarships will be paid in the fall semester after selection, upon confirmation of enrollment. Two scholarships are:

Ken Yost Memorial Scholarship.

A $2,000 scholarship is awarded in memory of Mr. Ken Yost, Public Works Director of Kirkwood, Missouri to a Missouri high school senior who plans to pursue a degree in a field leading to a career in public works.

APWA Missouri Chapter Technology Scholarship.

A $2,500 scholarship is awarded to a high school senior or graduate entering a technical school in a program directly leading to a career in public works, including construction technology, surveying, heavy equipment operation, grounds and building management, or fleet management.

Applications must be submitted no later than March 2, 2015.
