St. Bart’s Sailing – You Can’t Beat the Experience
St. Bart’s Sailing offers a unique and inexpensive sailing opportunity to all. Our sailors manage and maintain Bright Star, a 34-foot sloop, which sails all season long. Affiliated with St. Bartholomew’s church, the Club welcomes all to join us for weekend and evening sails. No sailing experience necessary. So bring lunch and a swimsuit and come join us on the water!
To Reserve: Call our InfoLine: (212) 378-0294 (24-hours a day) and leave a message telling us when you want to sail, your name, and your phone number. You’ll receive a confirmation call within 48 hours, which will also include the name and phone number of your skipper for the sail. (Note: hit “*” to go right to the recording). Leave an email address and we’ll add you to our weekly email blasts.
Payment: For most sails you may bring payment to the boat. For special sails and overnights you must submit a deposit or full payment in advance. While we prefer checks, you may pay in cash on the boat. However, exact change is not guaranteed. Make checks payable to: St. Bartholomew’s Church. Write “sailing” and the date of your sail on the check.
Sailing Times
The skipper determines when the boat will leave the dock and when she will return based on weather conditions and safety. He or she will poll the crew at the start of the sail to help determine a convenient return time. Cruise departure times vary and are discussed with all sailors in advance of the sailing date.
Weekend Evening
Leave Dock 12:00 noon 7:00 p.m.
Return 6:00 p.m. 10:00 p.m.
Spring and Fall return times are often earlier.
Thursday night racing departure is 6:30 p.m. sharp.

Getting There
By Train
Bright Star is berthed in New Rochelle, NY, 40 minutes from Grand Central by MetroNorth train.
On weekends catch the 10:37* a.m. train to New Rochelle. Weekday evenings take the 5:40* p.m. At the station take a taxi to Glen Island Yacht Club, 101 Harbor Lane West and walk to the dock to find us.
If you miss your train take the next one. If your skipper knows you’re coming, he or she will wait. If you have been given your skipper’s cellular phone number, call to let him or her know of your delay.
*All times are approximate and subject to change. Call MetroNorth for current information: 212-532-4900.
Driving Instructions
From the south take the north-bound Cross Bronx Expressway (I-95) to exit 15 (“Route 1, New Rochelle and Pelham”). Turn right at the bottom of the ramp and go under the railroad bridge. Turn right at the next light, Main Street. Turn left at the next light, Weyman Ave. Go about one mile and at the intersection of Shore Road you’ll pass a sign for Glen Island Harbor Club. Go on over a small bridge (but not as far as the drawbridge) to the next cross street.
Turn right on to Harbor Lane West and follow it up and around and back down into a parking lot adjacent to the docks. Bright Star is half way down the left dock on the right. She has a green stripe at the top of her mast.
Guests
Members are allowed to bring one guest on any sail. If space is available, more than one guest is permissible. More than two guests may be subject to the approval of the skipper and commodore. Any one guest may sail up to three times per season at guest rates. Increased rates apply for additional sails. Tentative guest reservations will be confirmed or denied at least 24 hours before the sail by the scheduler via telephone or email.
“I Can’t Make It!”
If you have to cancel on the day of the sail please call your skipper before 9:00 a.m. on weekends or before 5:00 p.m. on evenings. Also leave a message on the InfoLine. If you cancel within 24 hours of sailing time you may be liable for sailing costs if you or we are unable to fill your slot(s).
Weather
Cancellations or delays due to weather are at the skipper’s discretion. It is not possible to predict the weather over Western Long Island Sound based on meteorological events in midtown Manhattan. Our skippers have access to marine weather forecast and are familiar with local weather patterns. On questionable days contact your skipper no earlier than 8:30 a.m. If your skipper chooses to sail, and you choose not to it will be considered a last minute cancellation (see Cancellation). If your skipper chooses to cancel or delay a sail he or she will contact you by 9:15 a.m. If your skipper cancels your sail due to weather, simply call the Sailing InfoLine to sign up for another date.
