Course Description: Introduces basic vocabulary, grammar, idiomatic expression, verbs in the present and past tenses as well as the life and customs of the Spanish-speaking world. The emphasis throughout the course is on communicative proficiency and the development of the four language skills—listening, speaking, reading and writing—in a functional context.
Necessary Materials: NEEDED EVERYDAY
Realidades 1 – Prentice Hall textbook and workbook
Pencil or Pen (Blue or Black ink only)
3 ring binder with dividers
Loose leaf paper
Goals:
A. Listening Comprehension
1. To be able to understand instructions, simple conversations, and simple stories in Spanish (primarily in the present tense).
B. Speaking
1. To be able to pronounce Spanish words correctly, using proper inflection and good expression.
2.  To be able to express simple needs and opinions.
3.  To be able to carry on a conversation related to common activities of everyday life.
C. Reading
1. To be able to read dialogues pertaining to situations that are natural to young adults.
2. To be able to read simple stories written in the present tense.
D. Writing
1. To be able to write sentences correctly using the grammar taught.
2. To be able to write original dialogues using the vocabulary learned.
3. To be able to write paragraphs in Spanish.
E. Culture
1. To learn about religious and social customs of the Spanish-speaking world.
2. To listen to music and look at art works from Hispanic countries.
3. To learn about Hispanics in our own country.
4. To learn about some of the difference in customs and values between the people of the U.S. and those living in Spanish-speaking countries.
