The Siuslaw National Forest is advertising one permanent seasonal (13/13), GS-0462-6, Engine Squad Leader (AFEO). The duty station for this position is Waldport, Oregon. The purpose of this Notice is to inform the potential applicant pool of this vacancy. This vacancy is open to US Citizens.

The duty station for this position is Waldport, Oregon.

ABOUT THE POSITION:

This position will be located at the Central Coast Ranger Station in Waldport, Oregon. The Siuslaw Fire Zone covers the Siuslaw National Forest and the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area. The Fire Zone consists of a Zone FMO, Zone AFMO, two Type 6 Engines, two 4 person Initial Attack modules and three Prevention Patrols.

This position works for the Engine Captain located at Waldport. Duties include assisting in the operations of a fire engine module in responding to wildland fires, prescribed burning and forest projects. To be considered for this position individuals must meet IFPM standards for Engine Squad Leader prior to entrance into the position. Minimum qualifications are Firefighter Type 1 and completion of S-290. This is a primary firefighter position with an arduous fitness level requirement and is covered under firefighter retirement.

* Incumbent must be able to pass the Work Capacity Test (WCT) at the arduous level.

ABOUT THE FOREST:

The Siuslaw National Forest is a very diverse and productive region extending from Tillamook to Coos Bay along the Oregon coast. The Forest encompasses over 630,000 acres of unique and varying ecosystems.

The Forest is situated within the Oregon Coast Range, a mountain range that runs north to south from the Columbia River to north central California. The Siuslaw National Forest is bordered on the east by the Willamette Valley and the west by the Pacific Ocean and is one of only two National Forests located in the lower 48 states to claim oceanfront property. Marys Peak, the highest peak in the Coast Range at elevation 4,097, is a prominent view west of Corvallis.
