TWO BIRTHDAYS
Tim and Holly were excited. They were going to Nancy's party. Nancy lived next door. It was her fifth birthday.
"Hurry," Holly said, "or we'll be late."
“I'm coming” called Tim, “Please wait for me.”
Tim and Holly ran across to Nancy's yard. They joined the others who were already playing games. Soon it was time to go inside. Nancy's mother brought out the birthday cake. It had five candles on it. "Oooh," said Tim, "its chocolate! My favourite!"
The children began to sing,
“Happy birthday to you!
Happy birthday to you!
Happy birthday, dear Nancy!
Happy birthday to you!”
"Blow out all the candles Nancy," her friends said.
"Try to blow out all five at once," said Holly.
Nancy took a big breath and blew hard. One, two, three, four, five candles all went out. The children cheered.
"I wish birthdays came more than once a year," said Nancy, looking at the gifts piled on the table. "It seems so long to wait."
"I've had two birthdays this year," said Holly," my regular birthday and my special birthday."
“How can anyone have two birthdays in one year?" asked one of the girls. "I have only one birthday."
"Me too'" answered the others. "Tell us how you can have two birthdays in a year."
“All you've to do is to accept God's gift that he wants to give to you," explained Holly. "That gift is Jesus Christ, who died on the cross for us, for our sins. Jesus is God's gift to us".
"Oh, wow!" cried Nancy. "I want to take God's gift today then I'll have two birthdays instead of one. But are you sure that if I take Jesus as my Saviour, I will be in God's family?”
Holly smiled as she answered. "Yes, Nancy, it says so in the Bible. My mother helped me learn John 1:12. The Bible says, "As many as received Him (that means the Lord Jesus), to them gave He power to become the sons of children) of”GOD" and a member of God's family."
"I would like to take Jesus as my Saviour right now," Nancy said.
The other children were very quiet as Nancy prayed, "Dear Lord Jesus, I know that I have sinned. I have done wrong things. Thank You for loving me so much and dying on the cross for my sins. Please come into my heart and be my Saviour." Nancy paused for a moment and then said. "Thank you, Jesus for the best gift of all. Now I have two birthdays, I am in your Family."
The children were very happy that they began singing.
“Happy birthday to you!
Happy birthday to you!
Happy birthday, dear Nancy!
Happy birthday to you!”
