Title: Volunteer Coordinator Intern
Primarily Reports to: Neighborhood Revitalization Program Manager
Remuneration: For academic credit (other requirements may apply, such as 408 Internship for Credit)
Time Demands: 15-20 hours per week

Scope of Position

The Volunteer Coordinator Internship places the intern at the center of the Habitat for Humanity community service programming. Such programming includes building homes for qualifying families, repairing and renovating homes for working families who own their homes, community projects like neighborhood cleanups, and assistance with ReStore staff and volunteers. The intern will develop and employ skills to manage incoming volunteer interest, volunteer applications, develop and communicate about service projects, maintain an orderly and safe work site (in collaboration with the NRI Program Manager), and more. The position will also familiarize the intern to Habitat for Humanity of Northern Arizona, the demands and dynamics of a small organization, and various skills needed in a growing workplace dedicated to socially minded work.

Primary Responsibilities

· Work with the NRI Program Manager and other nonprofits to identify service projects for qualifying homeowners and large volunteer groups

o Collaborate about service opportunities

o Learn about partner families and households

o Plan for safe and successful service days

· Connect with new volunteers and increase participation of existing volunteers

o Provide novel approaches for volunteer engagement

o Incorporate NRI partner families in “sweat equity” service projects

o Present (with the NRI Program Manager) to classes, student groups, businesses, community groups, and more to increase volunteerism

· Maintain and expand existing volunteer directory

o Respond swiftly to volunteer interest by phone, email, and in person

o Record volunteer contact information for volunteer directory

Skills and Experience

The Volunteer Coordinator Internship will draw on existing skills and work experience. In the course of the internship, the intern will be expected to:

· Project a professional and positive image of her/himself and Habitat for Humanity

· Be self-motivated without immediate supervision and ask questions as needed

· Multi-task between various responsibilities and tasks

· Comfortably and respectfully work with volunteers and partner households

· Be experienced with standard office equipment and Microsoft Office Suite software

· Maintain a respectful and courteous manner regardless of volunteer attitude

· Practice a clear speaking voice in person and on the phone
