FACULTY
Science Teachers at BHS have diverse backgrounds, but all are trained and certified in science. From energetic young faculty to experienced pros, they share a passion for teaching science that helps students see the relevance of science to their own lives. Prior to teaching, many were engaged in work, such as science research, that enhances their science teaching.

PHILOSPHY
The Science Department at Braintree High School believes that science is for all students.
This philosophy means that:
1. All BHS students are required to study 3 years of science and all are encouraged to take 4 or more years of science.
2. A variety of courses at different levels is available to match individual students’ need for time to master new concepts and skills.
3. All courses must be rigorous, incorporating both the content and thinking skills needed for science.

special events AND OPPORTUNITIES
The BHS Science Fair showcases students’ independent research projects. Students also have the opportunity to compete at the South Shore Regional Science Fair and at the Massachusetts State Science Fair. Braintree’s participation in these Science Fairs dates back to the early 1960’s and BHS students have produced many outstanding projects over the course of those years.
The Robotics Club gives students the opportunity to participate in local and national competitions through the FIRST VEX Challenge. BHS students have placed 3rd in national competition in both of the last 2 years.
Science Team members compete locally at such events as the H2Help Hydrogen Fuel Cell Sprint, in which their hydrogen fuel cell car placed 2nd last year.
The Environmental Club sponsors many initiatives, such as the BHS paper recycling program, that promote environmental awareness and enhance life at our school.
