School Improvement Fund (SIF)

Guidance for Data Collection Requirements

Overview

To best determine how a chosen improvement strategy is impacting student achievement and school improvement, districts and programs are required to collect baseline data for all students involved in SIF Grant activities and submit the information to the Oregon Department of Education (ODE). These online data submissions are scheduled for October 2008 and October 2009. ODE will utilize these data for its SIF results reports, to be given to the Legislature February 2009 and February 2010.

Description of SIF Data Collection Elements

SIF Grant recipients will submit (online) the following data for each SIF Allowable Area selected:

Field 2 Biennium Allocation Amount

Field 3 Allowable Area

Field 4 Allowable Area Budget: Budgeted and Actual (amount of money initially

budgeted and amount of money actually spent)

Field 6 Improvement Strategy Description

Field 7 Improvement Impact Expected

Field 8 Improvement Strategy Measure(s) Source (e.g., OAKS, MAP, SAT 10, DIBELS,

Biennium Timeline for Data Collection and Reporting

· Fall 2007 – SIF Applicants collect baseline data for SIF- funded activities.

· November 5, 2007 – ODE presented SIF Data Collection Overview of Data Fields chart and mock up template to the Joint House and Senate Education Committee.

· November 19, 2007 – ODE posted SIF Guidance for Data Collection Requirements and e-mailed to districts and programs.

· March 4, 2008 – ODE sent Data Collection Numbered Memo to districts and programs and posted updated SIF Guidance for Data Collection Requirements, including the SIF Data Collection Overview of Data Fields, on the ODE website at http://www.ode.state.or.us/opportunities/grants/nclb/title_i/a_basicprograms/schoolimprovement/sifguidance.doc.

· October 2008 – Districts and programs submit to the Department of Education the required data, as described above, for each SIF Allowable Area selected.

· February 2009 – ODE reports 2007-2008 SIF results to the Legislature.

· October 2009 – Districts and programs submit to the Department of Education SIF data requirements for each SIF Allowable Area selected.

· February 2010 – ODE reports 2008-2009 SIF results to the Legislature.
