SMART Board Trouble Shooting

Install 10.8 Update
Everyone must be updated to this Notebook version as it fixes various problems.
1. This will take a planning period
2. A teacher cannot use his/her board while updating
3. Click SMART tools in the notification area, check for updates, Update. This will update Notebook to 10.8 and Notebook Drivers to 10.8. If you do not see in the toolbar, see attached for instruction for how to add to the startup menu.

Trouble Shooting Tips

No Touch on the SMART Board- This is a USB or Driver issue.

Ready Light is off / ·  Check USB connection at computer , SMART board, and wall plate if applicable
·  Unplug USB at SMART board, reconnect
·  Unplug USB on computer, reconnect in a different USB port
·  If you cannot get a green light, try connecting from the computer to the SMART board via direct USB (without the wall plate). Only some schools connect via wall plates.
Ready Light is red / ·  Unplug USB at SMART board, reconnect
·  Unplug USB on computer, reconnect in a different USB port
·  If you cannot get a green light, try connecting from the computer to the SMART board via direct USB (without the wall plate). Only some schools connect via wall plates.
Ready Light is blinking green / This is a problem with the drivers.
·  Update Notebook software via the web http://tinyurl.com/10point8

Pen Problems

Cannot write with pens / ·  Make sure Notebook Software and Drivers are 10.8 (See above)
·  Make sure the ready light is green. (See above)
·  Check to see if SMART tools are in the notification area. If they are not, see attached instructions to put them in the start-up menu
·  Check the little phone type cable that connects the SMART board to the pen tray. Check connections.
Writing does not show where the pen touches the board / ·  Re-orient with the 9 point orientation screen
·  Do a Resolution Wake-Up. Change the Display Resolution to another setting, apply it, then set it back to 1024x768

Projector Image Problems- This is a VGA or Computer Issue – Display Resolution should always be 1024x768

No image / ·  Check all VGA connections (one at SMART board control panel, one on computer, two on Document camera, and wall plate if applicable)
·  Check Display resolution 1024x768
·  FN/F8 (possibly several times)
·  Check sliders on the side of document camera for correct placement (vga-dvi-d and xga)
·  Check for Cloned Display Settings or Multiple Monitors. Depending on the video card, this can be accessed differently.
·  Restart the computer
·  If all else fails, this may be a video driver issue. Submit a work order if this is beyond your skills set.
Projector Does Not Turn On / ·  Look to see if the projector power button is flashing yellow/red. (This is power button is mounted to the board or just below the board on the wall). If this is the case, reset by pulling the power cord out of the wall and putting back in. Restart.
·  Clean the projector using the attached directions. Restart.
·  Look at the lights on the projector. If the power light is solid amber and the wrench light is flashing red, then this means the bulb is dead. Replace the bulb. Instructions are attached. If you have never replaced a bulb, please feel free to contact Shari or Carrie to schedule a time to learn how to do this. It is recommended that a projector cleaning occur with each new lamp.
·  If the lights are anything else, submit a work order with details and projector serial number.
Image is flickering as it warms up and the colors strobe. / ·  Clean the projector using the attached directions. Restart.
Image has salt and pepper speckles / ·  Submit a work order with details and projector serial number.

Document Camera Problems

Cannot see the image in any mode (pc or camera) / ·  Check sliders on the side of document camera for correct placement (vga-dvi-d and xga) See picture above.
Cannot see image in Notebook Software / ·  Make sure USB cord is plugged into the document camera and the laptop (usually light gray).
·  Make sure Notebook Software and Drivers are 10.8
Cannot Take a Picture with the button on the top of the document camera / ·  Expected behavior. This button only works with an SD card.

SMART Board is Dirty

If the SMART boards get smudgy you may clean it with the following approved cleaners sprayed on a soft towel.
Spray the towel, not the board as drips need to stay clear from the pen tray. / YES
·  water
·  baby wipes
·  ammonia free Windex
·  Expo white board cleaner sprayed on a soft towel
NO
·  Clorox disinfecting wipes
·  any cleaner with alcohol or ammonia,
·  Mr. Clean magic eraser.
