Romeo and Juliet Poster & Playbill Project

Advertising…. it’s all about advertising. For any show to be a success, we’ve got to get people into the seats. And what, may you ask, is the best way to create some buzz? Why, with an exceptional poster, of course. It should make people want to come in and see the show. Once inside, we need an equally good playbill. Remember that people often save these as souvenirs, so make sure it looks great! Bring me your proofs for approval when you are finished.

You will need to create:

A movie or play style poster. (Yes, it must be the size of a poster board. We want everyone to see it!)

You must include the name of the play, the playwright, and who is starring in it. Since these are the

prototypes, you can put in the names of anyone as the stars. The graphics are up to you but

remember that use of space is a big factor and that people prefer something in color that is easy to

read. You’ve seen movie posters before, haven’t you? The graphics should highlight some big event

in the play.

A playbill. All playgoers like to have something to look at as they are waiting for the show to begin.

Your playbill should be letter sized paper folded in half. The paper can be any color. The title of the

play and the playwright’s name should be on the front cover along with a graphic. I think that a

different scene from the poster should be highlighted. On the inside, you will need to list all the

cast and the people who will be playing the parts. You will also need to list the acts and scenes. On

the back cover, you need to include the ads from our sponsors.

I will also need to see:

A written report. It should be one and a half to two pages long. The text should be printed in a plain,

black 12 point font and should be double spaced. Your name, my name, your department name

and number along with the date of the report should be in the upper left of your paper. You need

to summarize the important events of the play and explain why you chose to highlight what you

did on the poster and in the playbill.

Later you will need to deliver:

An oral report to the rest of the ad team. Be sure to display your work. You will need to speak loudly

and clearly. In two to four minutes, you will need to persuade the team that your poster and

playbill are the right ones to use.

Good luck. I am looking forward to seeing what you come up with!
