Why get involved with Shelter?

More than one million people a year come to us for advice and support via our website, help lines, and national network of services. We help people to find and keep a home in a place where they can thrive, and we tackle the root causes of bad housing by campaigning for new laws, policies and practice.

This year is our 50th anniversary and to mark the occasion, we are planning an exciting calendar of events to reflect on the last 5 decades, encourage discussion around bad housing and homelessness and to promote our work and the support we offer even further.

Shelter Pop-up shop

Our retail department currently operates in just under 100 shops, supported by around 1200 volunteers and staff across the chain. We sell a variety of donated clothing, footwear, accessories and household items. Every £5 raised in Shelter shops could help to answer another call for help from a vulnerable person at risk of homelessness.

Located in Manchester’s vibrant Northern Quarter, the pop-up shop will sell a range of Men’s and Women’s vintage clothing to reflect the 5 decades throughout which Shelter have been supporting vulnerable people and helping to ensure that no one fights bad housing or homelessness alone.
