Summary of Duties, Responsibilities and Goals

Safely performs the most difficult tasks of the greatest complexity within the maintenance specialty related to the locksmith and facility security functions of the College. This is the highest and most fully qualified position.

Essential Functions

Occidental College is a selective four-year private liberal arts residential college. It is a single hillside campus of 123 acres, 50 major buildings and just over one million square feet. During the academic year over 1200 students live on campus, and during the summer special events and conferences are housed on campus creating a seven day a week support requirement.

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by an individual assigned to this job. Other duties may be assigned.

DUTIES TYPICALLY ASSIGNED:

1) Uses a variety of hand tools (e.g. pliers, screwdriver), power hand tools (e.g. drill, buffer) and specialized power tools (e.g. key cutter) to perform all the basic duties related to maintenance, repair and installation of locking and facility security tasks.

2) Basic duties include: Cuts keys and re-cores cylinders. Changes and installs locks on doors, cabinets, file cabinets and desks. Repairs and changes door closures and panic hardware.

3) Maintains shop records and inventory control

4) Assists in moves and set-ups for Special College events. Performs other duties as assigned.

5) Keeps track of own labor, materials and supplies used and reports these accurately.

6) Receives specific instructions from immediate supervisor as to work assignments and quantity and quality of work expectations.

7) Develops Best key codes. Develops the key declensional system and acts as lead. Full knowledge of Onity card access

8) Demonstrates organization and leadership qualities

9) Has good knowledge of computers, the BEST record keeping system, and has electronic security access systems training, such as Keystone.

Qualifications

5-7 years’ experience in locksmith field required. Able to bend, stoop, climb and lift; not afraid of heights. Requires moderate physical strength. Must have a pleasant interactive personality. Read, write and understand directions in English. High School diploma desired. Valid California driver's license required and must maintain College Authorized driver status. Preferred if bonded. Available 24/7.
